Hunting Deals....where did they go?
Do you guys think that the hunting economy is coming around? Could it be that or just that most of the seasons have already started and there isn't as much marketing going on?
In the spring this place was full of great hunting offers around the globe....but it has been really slow lately. What do you guys think?Tom

On another forum I saw 3 hunts in Tanzania with the day rates discounted by nearly 50 percent.
In August we will start seeing some operators unloading unsold quota on late season hunts.

I think people booked a lot of trips this winter and spring. I agree with Mike, there will be fire sales in August and September for unsold quota. I think the economy depends on what trade of work you do and where you live. It's slow where I live....jobs are a premium.
Africa is still a great destination to hunt! Dollar for Dollar it's a great value.

I am thinking of putting 2 great deals out there but wil probably only take one group per offer.
What do you think the demand is for , cull hunts or maybe like 5 days 3 animals ?
I will talk to Nkjonas , I would like to hear his view .
All the best

To be honest we had a couple of good deals posted on forums hell we even had a free hunt on another forum that was canceled so I don't see the economy turning but more outfitters that didnt get too much responce on the deals offered and just not post any deals anymore.
Take this deal for example. Kudu & plainsgame hunting 5 Aug -2 September 2011
$350 for 2x1 what more do people want ?
Big dangerous game deals are always coming up from July onwards but that is still just for people who have the means to come do the hunt they are still not cheap. Just cheaper than normal.
Oh and BTW this is also a good time if you have an outfit in mind to negotiate what you are looking for as a hunt you have nothing too loose if you don't try.

The way i see it is that the economy is still sliding and prices are going up...
there are many who would like to go, however they have limited funds to spend and would have a difficult time covering the airline flight...
The ones who have money have booked their safari's and and looking to do so again...
Many on this forum would like to go, however the bottom line is what decided what will happen...Many are sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what our ecomony will be doing...
Many sports are being hit big time and fishing and hunting are no exception...

James, you're right. The economy is still bad and it likely will be for a while. We're noticing it with a lot less American fishermen in the area this year.

The American economy is still quite bad but many others are doing well. I am suprised that they are not picking up the slack while prices are good. There has never been a better time for a Canadian to go.
The journey is the reward.

Top hunts in top areas are sold for top dollars to recession-proof hunters; recession be damned. Middle to lower level hunts are hard to give away in tough times. I saw PG ranches in RSA and Nam. that did not sell a single thing at DSC and SCI. Beside them were guys that were sold out of 75k lion hunts; 40k elephant hunts; and 30k leopard hunts.

So true, I have always said the high quality upper end hunts will always be full. There are not a lot of hunters run through those areas...limited quota, and there are always enough guys with money in their pockets to fill those hunts.
The plains game hunts are hard to fill because...you have to sell new people on the idea of "expanding" their hunting range and go to Africa! And there are way too many options out there....where dangerous game and elite antelope...only have so many openings. Some guys love plains game hunting and can't get enough, but most don't have deep pockets and can't go every year. And with the economy in a free for all in certain areas of the U.S....it's a hard go out there.

Hi, Willem,
What do you mean by a cull hunt? If it is what I think it is, I might be interested next year. I love to hunt, but don't care too much about inches or trophies (to be honest, I have never bothered taking one. The experience itself and the meat were more important). I would love to hear more about this.

Couldn't have said it better I for one would love to do the Big Five but in no time in my life do I foresee having pockets deep enough for that though the dream is still there. I do love the challenge of the plains game chasing the grey ghost trying to find that monster Warthog and as for me thats about all I can afford besides when you've taken the big five well there not going to invent another one and I've done lost count as to how many PG you can take.

I can't speak for everyone but as for me I am a member of SCI but never make it out west to one of there Conventions the way I see it I would rather take that money that would be spent towards hotels and airline tickets and take my butt on another PG Safari in RSA.
