C'mon Dollar vs. Rand!
It is amazing to me how much fluctuation there has been in the last several years in the dollar to rand. When I first started going over it was something like 1 to 11 or 1 to 12. As of today (June 14, 2011) it is 1 dollar to 6.88 rand.
If the dollar were to become stronger against the rand, everyone would benefit. I guess it's just a sign of the poor economic times....but i'm sick of it and ready for a rebound.Tom

It is a monetary issue...and our congress is to blame (both parties)...borrowing money to spending money...
the value of the dollar is a balancing act...It has to do with our national debt...interest rates...unemployment and out sourcing of work...
If the dollar grew stronger...(and i hope it does) it makes over seas items more affordable...when we devalue the dollar...it make American made items more affordable...it is a large balancing act...James Grage - New Mexico

I highly doubt the US dollar is going to rebound. I truly believe we are heading into a great depression, that will make our first look fun. The US is now a failing economy and we are slowly drowning in our own debt. Eventually our economy will crash and then we will have to go through another great depression to get back on track. IMHO
It is very hard for me to want to believe this, because I have to grow up during it. I would like to dring the Obama regime's propoganda, but I know that the US is 15+ trillion in debt....

It really is hard to predict what will happen over the next couple of years. I have little hope that things get much better soon, but maybe... As for me I do not believe anything Obama says about anything. And I sure as hell did not vote for this clown.

The perfect rate would be 10 to 1 to the Dollar but I dont see that happening soon.
The higest it ever been was just after 9/11 when it came close to 14 to 1 and when I first worked with intl. clients working for a ph it was 3.5 to 1 in 1995

I have compassion for you guys in the US, however....
As soon as the US$ gets stronger against the R we pay more for everything we import from the US. As the R value of the sale transaction increase, the local amount on taxes payable increase. Gun outlets and Safari shops all need to inflate their rates - affecting hunters here in Africa (South and elsewhere) very much negatively as our US imports in rifles, handguns, bows, arrows, bullets, scopes, acessories etc.etc.etc... is all more expensive than prior - due to the upward trend of the US$ against the R.
Forgive me but i am not singing in this choir (as per enysse's comment)FHM3006

FHM, E was singing in the Canadian choir not the SA choir.
Those darned Americans have just been used to having that big inflated exchange rate for a long time. Who would not want it in their own favour.
I like the CDN$ higher than the USD for sure.

I can't complain about the Rand or Canadian dollar right now. My home state in the USA (Wisconsin) is getting clean clocked, fleeced....whatever you want to call it by our Governor. My wife is out of work and I had to take a hefty pay cut....hopefully better days ahead.
Keeping my head up!

From what I hear Wis has been going down the tubes for quite some time like many states having been mismanaged including my own by the usual suspect, the demoncrap party! You have a Republican there now so maybe things will look up for you, lets hope.

What America needs, to even have a chance of rebounding, is elect someone like Michelle Bachman. We need a good conservative, that will pull us out of all these wars, will cut spending drastically, and will stand with Israel. Bachman for president!!!!

If you consider Bush a conservative, I don't. He was a RINO, not a conservative. Bachman said that she wants to pull us out of all these wars, so she can fix the US economy.
BTW, In the recent vote to cut funding to the Libyan war, more republicans voted to cut funding than DEMONRATS. The republicans are actually the only reason it passed the House. Besides, it was the ultra progressive Obama regime that got us into Libya in the first place!
