Hunting Tanzania... Kilombero Kronicles 9; Hunt of the Season.
There is always a hunt that stands out among the rest for one or various reasons and not necessarily due to success rate, though most tend to be. This one was due the proportion of time to success rate - 17 animals in 8 days! Not much more can be added to that fact. And I will repeat myself again... it is a wild concession in Tanzania without game fences or game management. Just good old anti-poaching and ethical hunting practices. This was the bag;
Three Buffalo
Elephant
Leopard
Hippo
Crocodile
Hyena
Warthog
Bushpig
Puku
Zebra
(no pictures - as it happens, a bad shot and unfortunately on this one it was with the Zebra)
Two Reedbuck
Red Duiker
Hartebeest
Impala
George was a returning client who had already hunted polar bear and rhino earlier in 2009 and added the above to his list - quite a feat in one year! Just the lion eluded us, but one needs more than a week to hunt the king!
On a safari like this, there is likely to be a bad shot and unfortunately on this one it was with the Zebra, which got away. Hope you enjoy the photos...

Another one of those safaris Jerome... nothing could go wrong and everyone did their part. What people find unbelievable is the all-time outstanding hunt in the Kilombero Valley. Was a gift to my father for his 50th birthday - 27 animals in 12 days! That can probably never be achieved again. That was the first and last gift i gave him in the form of a hunt! I think it made-up for all the hunting and outdoors we shared through my childhood and youth
He gets more conventional gifts now, such as a photo or two to remind him of the hunt ha! ha!

Ryan great post and thanks for sharing this hunt with us! Looks like you were a busy guy. A lot of hard work must go into a hunt like that!

A lot of hard work but a lot of fun too Billy! 5am wake-ups and 11pm turn-ins. Who needs more than 6 hours sleep on safari anyway? Nothing like a long, tough day of hunting with success being the cherry. Arrivals are always exciting and departures always sad, so why not make the in-between packed with fun, laughter and action!
This particular safari did have us drained by the end of it and we were very lucky to have a few days break before the next. The skinners suffered the most, but it is the kind of suffering they don't mind and are always happy to see their work rewarded.Ryan Shallom (CEO)
