It has been bantered around here on AH before, it can start a war! But if the right guy reads this the posts will get long. Most self-respecting PH's would never let you alone. They want to know what you are seeing and attempting to shoot. Most would never let you alone to shoot arrows and then only be called to retrieve the game.

Yes please keep that subject there, here is the link: Is the PH legally required to be in hide in South Africa?

I don't quite know what they do all day - take care of another hunter, whatever. If so, they are getting doubly tipped. If not, then they are basically working only a few hours per day.
    Dear buzz1858

When hunting with Kowas Hunting Safaris, Namibia, Africa, there is no such thing as dropping off a client in the hunting field without a PH by your side since it is illegal in Namibia to conduct trophy hunting without the presence of a PH/hunting guide/master hunting guide. When hunting with us, you will always have a PH by your side.

We further more take in only one group at a time and you will not be sharing camp with others - perhaps that being the reason that we have more than 80% returning clients.

As I understand it you may be in the hide alone as a lot of bow hunters perfer to have the space to theirself and to call there own shot but the PH and trackers are there and once the animal is shot they go to work tracking the animal so not to lose it but your not left in the bush alone they are there just not inside the hide with you as stated above no one just gets dropped off at lease there not suppose to. But as far as tipping that is up to the client for services provided based on there request and how those request are met but the amount of the tip is strictly up to the client.

Bob, a client according to 2003 act 7 of 2003 chapter 5 page 53 stipulates supervision of a professional hunter as a ph he should be right next or behind the client.

Sorry I do not wish to derail this thread.

The service received should be reflected in the tip.

They are off herding animals to your blind to provide shot opportunities.

funny you should say that, that is how we were able to get Deb's Zebra after being busted 3 or 4 times on stalks the trackers were dropped off on the other end of a mountain ridge 2 miles away as the ph myself and Deb waited in ambush as they came along the hill side.

If you really want to know what he is up to when you are left in the blind alone you have to make sure you know what the local sports schedule is.
    Specifically, Rugby.

Figure out whether he has satellite TV, that really changes the TV scheduling and look for the PVR as you never know about recorded shows.
Somehow they can always be watching one team or another.

    Suggested TIPS:
To ensure that you get the best trophies show up in another provinces colours.
If hunting in Natal show up in a Bulls shirt etc, etc.

Cinching Rowland Ward trophies requires you show up in a Brumbies shirt anywhere in RSA or providing your host with a brand new Wallabies shirt when you arrive at the airport in full view of everyone.

    Oh, PLEASE guys....
Here's the deal. Last time I was in RSA, as Bob said, I was left in a hide. The PH was within shouting distance. If I shot, he was there in minutes.
I resent strongly the implication that any "drives" were in place.
MY hunts are strictly fair chase, I wouldn't be there otherwise.
Jaco cleared the air for me, I shall be more diligent from now on.
    End of subject.
