Default Although this was not a 60 Kudu bull it is still a once in a lifetime trophy

The past weekend was our annual family hunting weekend. As normal my brother in law, his brother, a longtime friend and I was in the bush for our hunting weekend. Now that the boys are old enough not to stay with their mothers they joined in as well.

We like to do this hunt the old traditional way, tent camp, running water and a camp fire is all we needed.

Marius, my brother in law managed to hunt this Kudu bull late on Friday afternoon. Marius was in the bush making his way back to camp when he saw three Kudu bulls grazing on top of the mountain.

The stalk was on, with the wind in his face he managed to get within 80 yards from the three bulls, unaware of his presence. We normally hunt for meat only so a trophy bull was not really the thing he was looking for.
Marius used his custom built 9.3 x 62 loaded with a 286gr Bullet on the hunt. As the bull stepped out from behind the brush Marius was in position and took his shot, the bullet hit the Bull behind the shoulder and exited on the opposite side.

As with most Kudu that take a well-placed shot in the mountain the bull immediately ran down the slope only managing some 45 yards before he fell down. It took us two hours to retrieve the bull from the mountain.

The right horn measured 47 and the left horn 46 although it is not in the record books this bull will soon be on the wall to be remembered for the year to come.

Was wondering if you had seen this bull before or was this the first time.It is amazing to me even on some of the smaller ranches animals go years with out been seen.Would you have looked as this kudu as a trophy for a hunter coming to hunt with you or a cull bull to get out of the herd.

This is a very interesting question billc thanks for asking.

I have never seen this bull before although the landowner has seen it in the past and in fact two other hunters has hunted for this specific bull earlier in the year but with no luck.

I have had hunters in the past that mentioned that they would like to shoot any non-typical animal should the opportunity present itself but there is only a hand full of them around.

Although I doubt that a bull like this would reproduce the defect onto the offspring, most landowners try to get them of and out of the pool

Nice looking trophy! My father told me once that no matter how much an animal may measure, someone will always shoot one that is bigger. However, nobody will ever shoot one that is quite like a unique animal like that.

The most terrifying sound in nature is not the roar of a charging lion, nor the whistle of a descending bomb; rather it is a click when you expect a bang.
