3 Days....
3 Days till we head back to go HUNTING....... It's been FREEZING cold in Wyoming and there was snow on the ground this morning. But in 3 days I get to hunt Hyena, Impala, Kudu, Cape Buffalo and maybe a Hippo. I am ridiculously excited. How am I ever going to get any work done? While I haven't done anything today at work, I have made a packing list and collected all the documents I need and renewed my Ambien prescription. I don't know if my hunting buddy is excited as I am but I am pretty excited to say the least. I can't wait to relax and hunt and not think for one minute about safety meetings, employee problems, etc. But in 3 days that all goes away as does all the email and texts and phone calls. All they can do is text me and I'm only turning on that phone once a day. Freedom and hunting......... I'm so excited.

Oh, one more question. Has anyone heard that US Fish and Wildlife is contemplating closing lions? I am thinking of booking a RSA lion hunt next year. I have read all the reviews on RSA lions vs. free range so let's please not go there. I have made my peace with that issue. I am just curious if I should be in a hurry to hunt a lion sooner rather than later........ So many animals to hunt, so little time......

Okay Uinta, thanks. That's good advice. I have a house in Wyoming and in Utah. Do I drive by you every weekend?
Funny, I pass elk all the time on the freeway but never hunted Utah. Wyoming is just always out my back door to hunt.
An elephant? I am REALLY jealous. Did you write a report on the lion? Or even better, have a pic?

Usfw has delayed its lion ruling until next year. They decided to wait until sci gets its data which means they are most likely basing their decision on science rather than emotion. Lion hunting will be on for next year for sure now so u will be fine. I hope this helps. I also plan on doing a few lion hunts myself next year. I may do one this year and two next year. Time will tell.

A COUPLE lion hunts next year? Tap, I'm impressed. I had to sit my wife down and explain that the Range Rover is going to have to wait because I HAVE to hunt lions next year in case they close it
Worked like a charm. What do you do for a living Tap? I have some free time with owning businesses but I certainly can't hunt all summer.
Uinta, do you qualify for a landowner tag at all? And we should carpool. I make the roundtrip at least once a week.

I work in the oilfield and live irresponsibly. I'm just an average guy with an expensive hobby I guess. if things go well I will be in semi retirement shortly. that's why im planning on hunting a few lions next year. I will have more time. We may hunt one this year and the rest next year. Im looking at doing a 30 day safari. Im really wanting a cahora basa croc and a matetsi lion. My wife wants a SA lion so that's the reason for the different lions. Im simply looking for adventure and adrenaline rush's. So as for next year were just gonna travel around and hunt the whole lot. Im really toying with the idea of hunting the Waterberg in Namibia as its the only place I can complete a "free range" big five quest. your welcome to join.

Would you guys please knock it off. We don't talk about safety meetings and reports and such. This is a site where we talk only about clean wholesome things. You guys need your mouths washed out.
I finally got things streamlined enough so that I don't go to those dreadful meetings. Im merely a saleman for the most part and as of now all my equipment is out so I just spend the days at the gym and dreaming of africa.

tap, I'm in the oil business as well. Own a service company. I basically measure every job we do by the cost of a hunt. There's a kudu, there's a lion, there's an elephant........ We use it to keep sanity around here. It also makes a great discussion point and oil company men like to come to the office to check out all the crazy animals on the wall. Everyone around here has an Elk but very few have a Blue Wildebeest.

You own a service company to? So finally theres someone who would understand what i do. I have workover rigs. I had a flowback company and water trucks as well but i got out of those as i was tired of the constant headache. I kept my rigs cuz i have only the best hands hired. They dont break down, complain, or miss work. They never have issues and the foremen and supervisors i have hired to look after things are second to none. In about to make a final push. Gonna add 20 to 30 more rigs and then go from there. Normally i tell someone i have completion rigs and they dont understand so i just tell them i have rigs like that show black gold. I still dont understand why u go to the safety meetings. I goto location when i feel like it and have the attitude that if the safety man gives me problems i will just rig down and move. Its insulting for me as all my guys are highly experienced. Safety meetings are for worms and i dont hire worms. Theres a reason why ive been in business 12 years with zero accidents.

I will be wanting a croc. I know that area is the place to go to for crocs over 15 feet and my wife and i both want to try for 16 ft crocs. Thats the only area where i know that is possible. Does the area you hunt produce crocs nearing 16 ft very often? If so what kind of pricing are we looking at?
