Brickburn,
9'-10' = "Big Gator"
11' - 12' = "Huge Gator"
13' - 14' = "Monster Gator"
14'+ = "your boat probably not big enough. leave him alone"

This maybe can put it in to perspective.
I have hunted alligators in South Louisiana since 1979 and have killed about 1800 over that period. The largest was 12 ft 4 inches. I have killed many over 11 feet.
Last year my buyer bought around 5000 alligators. The largest was 12 ft 6 inches.
A 12' alligator is BIG.
BTW I do not sell any hunts.

HELLO EVERYONE, I GUESS ALL THE OPINIONS AND NUMBERS ARE FINE, THIS SHOULD ANSWER THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, "BULL"AS IN MALE, "BIG" AS IN OVER ELEVEN FEET, ONLY THE MALES GET THIS BIG, REGARDLESS OF WHAT ANYONE SAYS, ALLIGATORS TAKE A LONG TIME "OVER 35 YEARS" TO REACH THIS KIND OF MASS AND LENGTH AND DONT GET THAT WAY BY BEING STUPID, CONTRARY TO THE JUNK YOU SEE ON THE TELEVISION. AND BY THE WAY I HAVE THE LONGEST AND HEAVIET RECORDED AND VERIFIABLE ALLIGATOR IN LOUISIANA FOR THOSE WHO LIVE BY NUMBERS, FOURTEEN FEET AND ONE INCH, WEIGHING IN AT 1,150LBS., AND NO, THE GOOD FOLKS AT LOUISIANA DEPT. OF WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES SEE NO NEED IN KEEPING A RECORD OF SPORT SHOT OR OTHERWISE FOR ALLIGATORS! THIS IS THE MOST FUN AND ADVENTURE AVAILABLE WHEN DONE RIGHT, QUESTIONS.
CROCS ARE LONGER AND ON THE AVERAGE HEAVIER.

YES, I OFFER TWO METHODS OF HUNTING, THE FIRST IS THE BAITED HOOK AND LINE OVER THE AREA ALLIGATORS ARE BELIEVED TO BE VISITING, THIS IS USUALLY DONE PRIOR TO THE DAY HUNTED OR EVENING TIME, WHICH TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE GATORS NOCTURNAL HABITS, BUT THEY WILL ALSO TAKE A BAIT DURING THE DAY. WHEN APPROACHING BAITS WHICH HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE MUST BE EXERCISED FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, SUDDEN TUGS OR PULLS CAN BRAKE A LINE OR INJURE SOMEONE, ITS IMPORTANT TO BE READY THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE GATOR SHOWS HIMSELF. THE SECOND METHOD INVOLVES STALKING AND GLASSING OVER PONDS, LAKES, OR RIVER SYSTEMS FOR ALLIGATOR DURING MORNING AND EVENING, PRECISION SHOOTING IS THE RULE, IF YOU MUFF A SHOT, YOU'LL MORE THAN LIKELY NOT RETRIEVE YOUR GATOR, YOU MUST ALSO BE READY FOR THE GATOR TO SINK SO THE APPROPRIATE HOOKS AND LINE CAN BE UTILIZED IN ORDER TO FIND THE GATOR, ITS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT REGARDLESS OF THE BRAIN SHOT THE LARGE HEAVY GATORS SINK WITHIN SECONDS. HOPE THIS GIVE AN IDEA OF THE METHOD, THE LOGISTICS OF GATOR HUNTING ARE STRICT AND HARD WORK, BUT THEN EVERYTHING WORTH SOMETHING USUALLY IS.
ALL THE BEST

Sounds like standard approachments to the crocodilian hunting.
By the way, you should consider turning off the caps lock key, David. :-)The best hunt are the one in your dreams, the next best are the one in your memories.

Hi David,
The hunt sounds great. However I am a bit confused. On 30Jun you offered a similar one tag hunt for $2500 down from $3500 and now this one is $4500. Do you have a standard price for your outings?

YES, THE CURRENT OFFER IS STRICTLY A HUNT FOR LARGER GATORS IN EXCESS OF ELEVEN FEET, THIS HUNT IS ON PRIVATE LAND KNOWN FOR CARRYING BIG ALLIGATOR, THE REDUCED CANCELLED HUNT IS MY STANDARD HUNT FOR ALLIGATOR IN THE 8-9 FOOT RANGE USUALLY CONDUCTED ON STATE MANAGED MARSHLANDS, HOWEVER BEING PUBLIC LAND WE OFTEN DO TAKE GATORS IN THE TEN FOOT RANGE WITH NO ADDITIONAL FEE. THE DIFFERENCE OTHE THAN THE COST IS PRIVATE LANDS.
BOTH HUNT INCLUDE FISHING, TOURS OF THE PLANTATION COUNTRY, AND WATER SPORTS TIME PERMITTING. HOPE THIS CLEARS THINGS UP FOR YOU, THANKS FOR ASKING.

David,
I just don't think you are being fair to the respondents of this thread
I remember the first Louisiana Alligator hunt I went on years before we could hunt them in Texas
We arrived at the lodge and over a wonderful dinner (with drinks) we began to talk over strategy and the guns we had brought for the hunt.
A rather large, French speaking gentleman from Abbeville explained to his two Texas charges, "what'd you bring guns for, we don't use no stinkin' guns for alligators"
well, my partner and I were a little taken aback by these comments and inquired further
A little more wine was pured and the gentleman from Abbeville proceeded to explain
"It's really simple boys, Alligator hunting is a two man operation"
"we are going to find you a 'gator and here is the drill"
"one of you, preferably the stronger needs to get out of the boat and circle around the animal"
"the other fellow will distract him and hold his attention"
"when the time is just right, you need to grab his tail and hold on tight"
"the other one of you hits him between the eyes with the hammer"
Now I have to tell you, this is not exactly what we had bargained for so, being full of wine and wanting to keep the conversation going I inquired
"Ummm exactly what kind of hammer should a fellow use?"
Our guide responded
"Oh, anything will do, I personally prefer a 24 oz framing hammer, I will be glad to loan you mine"
by this time there were two real concerned Texas boys sitting at the table
The gentleman from Abbeville offered further
"One other tip I have to share, If the the guy on the tail lets go or can't hang on, the chances are we will never be able to get that 'gator off the other one..... and....if the man with the hammer doesn't get on with it, we will be picking your friend up somewhere around Atlanta because when that "gator swishes his tail that's about where he is gonna land"
Long story short, it was a rather sleepless night for the clients in this particular situation
The following morning, after a hearty breakfast we had steeled our nerve determined to give this the best we had despite the incredible perile we were about to place ourselves in
As we walked down the dock towards the boat, our guide looked at me with a little smirk on his face and said
"Boy, where's your gun, just might need it before the day is over"
You could hear the air going out of me in San Antonio"He even took the gramophone on safari. Three rifles, provisions for a month and . . . . Mozart"

Now BIG boy and and here i thought you being the stock muscular Texan would just put a big Texas bowie knife between your teeth and just dive in and find a gator and do it like you were Tarzan...roll him over measure him and then throw back the little ones, making sure you have the trophy you are looking for...You know every thing is bigger in Texas...including tales...and bravery...James Grage - New Mexico
