Hey everyone! I am posting this for my uncle who would love to take the trip, but is unable to swing it financially. He got the trip at a auction and I will just post exactly what it says on the paperwork. 10 day plains game hunt for two in South Africa!


Bush Africa Safaris and Schalk van Heerdon are offering a 10 day hunt for 2 hunters in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. This is a plains game hunt that includes a $1,000 trophy fee credit per hunter. Can upgrade to dangerous game for $200/day. Additional hunters may join at $390/day and non-hunters at $220/day. Accommodations are provided in a luxury thatch lodge with en-suite bathrooms. Transportation is provided to and from the Johannesburg airport. This hunt can be taken in April-October 2012.

Airfare is not included.


The value listed for this hunt is 9,800. He would just like to get back what he paid which is 2,750, but we would be willing to entertain other offers.

Its a really good offer. I am interested, although when I look at the trophie prices on the website, its a good thing you have 1000 dollar rebate per hunter, because they are rather on the high side. But I am sure you will be able to sell this package easily. If not I can give it a second thought later.

I understand your uncles predicament but this is not in the spirit of SCI donations I would offer iot back to the chapeter it was bought from if I was you or the funds that you or your uncles raise from thids hunt those proceeds should be forwarded to SCI or the donation group it was bought from.

Just my idea on the selling of donations after they have been bought. It has become a fashion to do this and I find it unfair, towards the outfitter and especially SCI, NWTF, or who ever the instance maybe.

Dont get me wrong I am not saying that this is what is happening here, but am posting this for future reference as this might cause some creative ideas.

I guess your concern is based on on the assumption that the reseller is going to "make money" on the resale.

Usually, the reseller is thrilled to recoup what they paid at auction and typically they only realize a portion.


I compared this Donation hunt to your last offer here on AH for 7 days plains game hunt. (Including trophy fees, etc.)

Your hunt is posted at $6500.00
Donation Hunt $9290.00 (7 days at $390, same trophies with the $1000 trophy fee gift deducted)

As Wolverine67 has politely noted, the Trophy fees in this case are "rather in the high side"!

Jaco, I think this should assuage your concern about a hunter profiteering from this donation hunt!


baze, my apologies for laying out the bad news. Although, it appears your Uncle has already done the math for himself.

Wolverine67 and Brickburn, I noticed the trophy fees myself, but I don't know much about them since I am not the hunter. I am just relaying information for my uncle, but yes he was aware of them when he bought it and still thought it was a good deal especially because of the recommendations that came with it.

Jaco, I am confused as well. There is definitely no profit coming from this, if that is your concern. It says on the paperwork exactly what was paid and that is the amount that I have given.

To Clarify guys, as an outfitter I am not concerned however I have seen my donations as well as those of other outfitters listed on ebay in the past.

Point is simple as an outfiter I truly do not care who comes on the donation, however having done many donations in the past a 10 day 8 trophy hunt is bought on an auction for under a $1000, this $1000 goes to whichever organization to which the donation was made too.

The buyer goes and lists the hunt on ebay for 3000 and pockets 2000 My opinion is simple, Is this truly fair to the spirit of the donation system? In all honesty I feel not, understand again I am not saying that this is what is happening here but this does happen.

Dealing in second hand safaris. Hence my earlier post surely generating income on a second hand basis from a donated safari can not be deemed as fair?

I hope in this case that all gets sorted and that the uncle does not get stuck although trophy feed and such should have been made avaiable to the buyer at the time of auctioning for him to be able to make an informed desicion?

I can sort of see both sides point on this one. If someone bids on a hunt (just ) to turn it over for profit, that sucks. If legit like this one probably is and only trying to recoup the cost of the bid, no problem. Yes the fees on the hunt are high on most animals, but I have seen higher on other sites. His "glamour" game prices are also high but so are just about everyone elses in RSA. I for one would not pay a 15K trophy fee to shoot a buff when one can pay much, much less in other countries where they are more available.

True Sest the donation set up has become a cat and mouse affair outfitters are almost to the point of feeling obligated to make donations and therefore have pricelists applicable to donations, not saying it is the case but once again does happen, personally I do not feel any obligation, I am obliged to good service.

Flip side to the buff coin of course is trophy versus daily rate in the respective African countries and while I do agree with you Sest, As a hunter that loves to hunt in Tanzania, zim and mozie there are also really good big areas to hunt well established herds of buff in SA. Unfortunatly a demon has raised its head in some African countries involving high daily rates and low success rates. Not the norm but always needs to be kept in mind.

To everyone else, now the hunt has been debated and analyzed who wants it? We have gotten several inquires and comments on how this is such a great deal, but now I need someone with the cash to just take it away! Ha! We really will consider offers on this, my uncle is getting antsy!

I have to agree with you.

I have see to many hunts that are purchased at SCI fund raisers. Only to be sold later at a profit.

On AH earlier discussions about the transfer of donated packages were covered and some have been traded 2 - 3 and even 4 times before the safari takes place.

When packages go for 500 to 1000 dollars and the bidder does so with the intentions for a resale at a later date to make a profit.

And the story seems to have a common listing: "Have to sell due to financial hard ship"...

That just like playing poker and saying l have to go so I'M all in and then win the hand and continue playing...

Once again this is NOT for profit and if you were to purchase it would you see on the paperwork how much was paid, which is exactly the amount that I have stated. This actually IS because of financial hardship, they are selling everything but the kids! So some of us are legit and aren't out to screw the system.

baze Good luck on re-cooping your uncles money you've got to read between the lines of these guys that seem to be beating you up they just want to make sure that your legit and give other members something to think about, it's not hard to beleive that it's a financial hard ship a lot of people go to these auctions looking at these great hunts going for cheap prices and if it there first trip to Africa it's not till they've forked out $2750 per say for the hunt then the shine wears off when they figure it out and they have to add $2000 for tickets to get there $3000 for trophy fees $4000 for taxidermy and a couple more thousand to get there great deal shipped home plus tips and other stuff and theres always other stuff. again good luck if all else fails check with your tax man and see if you can donate it to fill a dream or catch a dream foundation and see if you can re-coop the 2750 as a Charitable Donation.

I think phone the outfitter and tell him your uncle can't go .
Maybe he can roll it over to the next year or try help you sell it .

These donation hunts are a difficult thing to sell . Another member , Mel Viney offered his on AH . Felt bad for him and sounded like a good as well .bought it for $1000 . When I phoned the outfitter for dates he wasn't that keen on me and one of my Swedish friends coming on the hunt and just taking the animals in the package . He said we have to shoot more to make it worth his while .

That's why I recommend asking the outfitter to help you .

Ok so in a last ditch effort my uncle is willing to cut his losses and sell this thing for $1,000!! So he paid 2,750, it's valued at 9,800, I'd say he's crazy and you're getting a good deal here! This will be my last post on this so just PM me if you want it! Thanks!

eg. 8 day safaris by Cruiser Safaris in Limpopo area. Hunt for $3950.00 includes kudu, Blue Wildebeast, Blesbok, Impala, Warthog.

Your hunt; Hunt sells for $1000.00 each hunter pays $500.00

Hunt for $500.00
Kudu for $2750.00
Blesbok for $495.00
Impala for $495.00
Warthog for $495
Blue Wildebeast for $975.00
Less $1000.00 credit for trophies

Total is $4710.00

Your hunt doesn't look good even at $1000.00 for 2 hunters

Church auction, talk to your tax man, it might pay off in the long run. If your a church goer.
