46" + Trophy Cape buffalo hunt South Africa

We are offering this buffalo bull which was used as a breeding bull as a 4 day/3 night day all inclusive hunt. The bull is guaranteed to measure more than 46". The hunt will take place in Limpopo South Africa in a portion of the Selati Private Game Reserve.

Client will be picked up at Johannesburg International and dropped off. The price includes all accomodation, soft drinks, food, PH (one on one), skinning and field trophy preparations. The price does not include taxidermy fees (pickup of trophy will be included) or rifle import fee ($150). Hunt must take place before en July 2011.

Total package price = $17900.00 If any client want to add in any other animals on the same hunt we will quote as per request.

Was this animal used for captive breeding or simply considered off limits to hunters who may come across him?

Yes, I would say so. It should be a fairly easy hunt. For close to $18000, I'd rather hunt in Tanzania...my two cents.

This is a good cape buffalo, is he about 9 - 11 years old...you still have a few good years left in him...

He look to be in great shape...

I am sure that someone will take a crack at him...

How big of a pasture is he located in?

This bull was used to breed and was initially chosen because of its horn span (genes). Enysse has again had his say, which I must say is probably not worth 2 cents. Whether it will be an easy hunt or not I can not say. I have hunted both easy and difficult. Such is hunting. Maybe Enysse can enlighten me what in his 2 cents worth of opinion
is easy, also ask him where he has hunted in Tanzania so as to advise you where exactly you can hunt a Trophy 46" buff.

Hi James, he is probably closer to 11 years. He is with a herd of about 150 and is being pushed out. Area is in excess of 5000 acres

Heinrich, I was stating a opinion, that is what a forum is for....I don't care if he is 50". $18,000 is a lot of money for a cape buffalo.

I thought the forum was about exchanging information and opinions...talking with fellow hunters. I might participate more than others...but that's because I like the website. If you want to get mean about go ahead.

My opinion is that for $18000 you could go to the Selous in Tanzania and have the hunt of a few lifetimes!

Yes, the import fee needs to be clarified. Perhaps its for greasing the wheels to get thru SAPS.

You said that the Buffalo has to be taken before July 2011. But if someone gave you a deposit, can we hunt the Buffalo early 2012.

Heinrich, that rifle permit fee is for clearing the rifle or acquiring the permit for the hunter, I assume?

Last bull like this I heard about "that was going to be an easy hunt" the trackers got chased up a tree. I think those horns might just be capable of flattening anyone that bothered him.

Guys the rifle import fee of $150 goes to a consultant who cleares all your rifles and gets all the permits before you land. He is also there to get you through the police without any hickups. We have always used him and have never had a bad experience. Clients sometimes land at 19h00, tired and not in the mood for hassles. Believe me he is well worth the money.

If I get a deposit we can hunt the bull anytime this year. We are however worried that the other bulls are starting to push him around when there are calves born, bottom line is the sooner he is hunted the better.

I've hunted in SA about 5 times and never had any problem importing my rifle. Very polite and professional staff at Johannesburg Airport.

If all your paperwork is done properly no hassles at all a 15 minute job. Even your outfitter can do it for you by sending him all the correct paperwork beforehand and he hands them in just before you land and all they do then is to check the serial number and your own your way.

It is really not as bad as what some people say it is I just think that some people are just scared of filling in official forms. But your outfitter should be able to point you in the right direction.

I am a little confused. You say he was used as a "breeding bull". Was he captive at some time? Is he still captive? How do you use a wild animal as breeding stock? Was he just "protected" from being shot if seen in the wild or was he in a pen and females brought to him?

It is kind of odd to offer a specific wild animal on a hunt if you ask me.

I could be way off, but I think most of the "wild" animals in SA are bought and transported to hunting concessions for the most part or atleast breeders brought in to improve genetics within a herd. Could be wrong though...

Sure...if they are released into the herd to improve the stock via the course of nature. But I hunted two ranches in Namibia and was never told "oh...you can't shoot that xxx because he is off limits. He's our "breeder".

So I am trying to understand was this one in a pen and now set loose on the game farm to be shot or is his still in a pen waiting for some "hunter" to anti up and shoot him? In the pen??? Or are they gonna release him right before the hunter shows up???

This whole thing just seems odd the way it is described.

Gives me the feel of one of those South Dakota Bison "Hunts" where you drive up to the herd and the "guide" says shoot that 3rd one from the front and you walk up and shoot him.

Still trying to understand how this concept of "a breeder" works...
