Thanks Brickburn. I had a suppressor made a few years ago and have never used this rifle again without it. It's just easier on everyones' senses :-)

Does it have a similar effect on recoil as a muzzle brake does?

It takes a lot of the recoil away. The biggest advantage for me is that I can hear the impact of the bullet on a buck much clearer. You can almost without fail tell whether a bullet has hit on sound alone. It's also easier being a PH or observer, you don't feel this compelling need to cover your ears when you're next to the shooter. It's a personal thing though, and a lot of my clients choose to leave the suppressor off.

I have been there twice . Great area , great hunt. Planning to go this summer again.

It takes any bullets, it just suppresses recoil and noise.

if you used say a factory round and then a maxed out hand load it will still work just as efficiently ???

The noise suppressor is a fancy muzzlebrake, I have never seen one in person. You can watch them on You Tube. They act like the noisy muzzlebrake without all the noise. It's not totally quiet. And the noise level is determined by the design of the suppressor. They are legal in the USA in many areas....but it costs a lot $$$ to have one. A lot people would say it adds weight and makes the gun look ugly.

Supressors are legal and common here in Norway. The biggest advantage are recoil reduction and to a certain degree sound reduction. The latter depends on the volume and amount of "chambers" in the supressor. The biggest disadvantage are weight.

The original silencer screwed on at the end of your barrel making it very long.The one on the rifle in the pics comes a bit over the barrel making it less shorter. They new ones come almost totally over the barrel and are so light you hardly notice them. Cost about R2500 / $300 in SA to have one made. There's a bit that screws on in place of the silencer and makes it look like a normal rifle if you choose not to use it.

I shot this old tack-driving Mauser rifle without the suppressor the first trip to SA, with the suppressor the second trip. Recoil was halved with the suppressor, noise reduced from BOOM to crack and I heard the bullet strike on every animal taken with the suppressor. I liked the added barrel weight shooting off the sticks and accuracy out to 300m, the farthest I've ever shot at an animal, was excellent. I'm now a big fan of suppressors which are newly legal in my state of residence but darned expense.
