It seems that you or your family or somebody closely associated is running African Hunting Gazette and running the program Visited and Verified, yet Juan Pace is a criminal and cheat of the worst kind. How can the hunting fraternity believe anything on your Visited and Verified site if you don't even know who or what you are Verifying!!!!

Let me provide some color commentary on this since I have great familiarity with raptor breeding. This guy was not just a crook, he was a stupid crook.

The 11 eggs that were fledged were British Peregrine Falcons. A subspecies not particularly desirable and certainly too small to hold much interest for the Arabs.

Here in the States licensed falconer a buy similar peregrines lawfully for about $500-$700 for the males and $800-$1200 for the females. The food costs to raise each bird is $300 or more. The facilities to do it are easily $40000-$60000. The around the clock care and effort to do it at say $10 per hour wages would be into the $100s of dollars per bird.

It's akin to spending $250,000 to plan and perpetrate a jewel heist at Walmart.

Crime doesn't pay even if he didn't get caught. So he appears lawless and really stupid. Which then suggests he's extremely illogical. Strong arm robbing a lemonade stand would have been more lucrative.

I wish the commentary in the press wasn't trumping up the monetary value of the resource as it only encourages dumb people to do dumb things thinking there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

And yet again, this guy is a chump. He stole Cassini Peregrine eggs. These birds can be LEGALLY exported from the USA to the UAE with CITES permits for pretty reasonable sums. A licensed American falconer can buy a Cassini falcon for about $1200-$1500 domestically at the very most for a female and $700-$1000 for a male. They aren't particular remarkable or desirable falcons for the opulent Arab marketplace (they are too small to hunt the quarry the Arabs want to hunt so there is little demand) and if they wanted them (they don't) there are many lawful breeders to supply demand even with CITES export expenses calculated in for less than you might expect.

So again I affirm two things:

The media claims of the sums of money these birds are worth is laughable and patently false.

This smuggler appears to be mentally defective more than a typical garden variety criminal. He's committing crimes that don't pay, for things of little value, that are readily available in the legal, regulated marketplace.

Rookhawk- Your posts are cracking me up. If what you state is correct, and I have no reasone to think anything other that you know well what you're talking about, then this guy must be a complete moron on many different levels.

On second thought, if he really did find buyers that would pay so much over market price then maybe he's smarter than I'm giving him credit for.

Maybe we can do a group conference call or skype him in prison to get his "side of the story".

My brother is a wildlife trafficker, smuggler of falcon eggs and is certainly guilt of breaking the laws of what we believe to be critical in the world of conservation. I do not, and did support it in any way.

After he was convicted in 2010 and served his time in an English prison, he had no job and returned to Africa after having lived abroad for 10 years. Having published a variety of conservation titles and the African Hunting Gazette, in particular, I knew I was running a risk having his association with my business, but my decision was based on the following:

· He had served his time (and if one believes in the correction service system, people should be allowed to continue their life – I was wrong!)

· His range of services for a division of the magazine was very restricted and limited, and to be honest, very useful.

· And he was my brother

I disclosed this to the media, way back in 2013 when he was rendering a service to the company. He never ran anything, let alone the Visited and Verified Program. The only person running anything is me, and we are a team here.

Pressure mounted and we all know that perceptions are everything and so I parted my professional relationship with my brother in 2014. Since then, he long longer has had any role, direct or indirect with the African Hunting Gazette. The business is still 100% mine. I am the publisher and the only reason it is what it is, is because of the team involved. So while some may decide to terminate their subscription, owing to the facts above, I am really sorry you feel like that, would love you to reconsider, but I respect your decision either way. Sadly, Jeffrey Lendrum did not bother to inform you of this thread? He joined AH as @Bell407 on April 10, 2013 and was aware of the thread and indeed posted in it.
