Black Mamba Pictures

you're looking at the toes of a person who has MOVED ON.
When Saint Peter stands at the Pearly Gates and says "Tell me the last thing you remember ... "
Their reply is ..."Ummmm I do recall some big gray snake. It's all kinda blurry now."

I assume the photo above is a joke.
Clever editing with Photoshop maybe?

There is a snake hook in the picture.

This twit is still alive apparently.

PHOTOGRAPHER CAPTURES BLACK MAMBA BITING HIM ON CAMERA BUT DOESN'T NOTICE TIL NEXT DAY!
Jan. 19, 2012 4:02pm Liz Klimas

Nature photographer Mark Laita will have an exhibition in Germany this February and will be releasing his next book on a project he calls Serpentine later this year. Laita knew the dangers of photographing poisonous snakes in 2010 and 2011 but didn't even notice when he became a victim of a snake bite himself and he captured it on film.

Laita is lucky to be alive as he was bitten by a black mamba, which is 100 percent fatal. New Scientist reports that Laita received a dry bite where no venom was injected. A doctor at the University of California, San Diego, states in this first aid guide to black mamba bites that dry bites are rare. According to New Scientist, Laita said it happened so fast that he didn't even see the snake on his leg until he looked at his photographs the next day.

According to National Geographic, the black mamba is the longest poisonous snake in Africa and has a reputation as the world's deadliest snake. National Geographic reports that the snake usually kills its prey within 20 minutes, and New Scientist points out that in 2006 it even took down an elephant.

New Scientist reports that Laita photographs the snakes in zoos, serpentariums, anti-venom labs and private collections, and that he thinks it's worth the risk.

thanks for this info brickburn--
a rare 'dry' bite,???!!!--well,he can count his lucky stars!

The amazing part is that he did not even know it. He should go out and buy a lottery ticket.

I notice when a mosquito bites me. Don't think I would miss this.

i agree. he should have bought a lottery ticket.

that demonstrates how fast the mamba's actually bite.

i just can't believe that guy did that - and lived through it.
maybe Saint Peter doesn't want him in heaven.
maybe his underwear is dirty or something. :)

In the 40's after the war my father worked a construction road/bridge project in Mamba Point, Liberia. Told me a tale, don't know if true, that the natives, when walking far, would boil water in a pot which they would balance on their heads. If a mamba (or any other snake) would go for a strike from a tree it would hit the hot water. Depending on how far the trip they'd stop periodically and heat the water.

Genevieve van Coller (16), renowned mountain biker from Vaalwater, recently had a terrible scare with a black mamba.
She and her dad, Allan, where cycling on their farm in the Melkrivier area close to Vaalwater when Genevieve suddenly felt a hard tug on her leg. She immediately slowed down to determine the cause. She saw two very distinct bite marks on her leg with blood flowing freely out of the wound. It looked like a snake bite, and was later determined to be the bite of a black mamba.

Genevieve's dad has had numerous training in First Aid and snake bites. He also keeps oxygen bottles handy for these types of situations as well as a radio to call for help, which he immediately did.
According to Van Coller his first reaction was to put a pressure bandage on the wound and to get Genevieve as still and comfortable as possible. A vehicle shortly arrived to pick them up and take them to a hospital.
Ive kept checking Genevieve for any signs of her breathing changing or her going into a coma, but luckily nothing happened, he said.

At the hospital it was determined that Genevieve had received a dry bite from the mamba, possibly aimed at scaring her away.
Ive have seen more than once that black mambas do not seem to feel the vibrations of a mountain bike.

If someone is cycling very fast, black mambas do not seem to have enough time to leave, and then feel obligated to stand their ground and strike at whoever comes into their territory, Van Coller said.

Van Coller says that while cycling, a cyclist must rather immediately stop when seeing a mamba in the road, and stamp their feet once or twice. The snake will take notice and remove itself from the area as fast as possible.

哲ever ride over a mamba; they can strike at an incredibly fast rate, lift their bodies two-thirds into the air and strike backwards at a vehicle, cyclist or person.

that is one lucky young lady .
hope she bought a lotto ticket

Yes, one lucky girl. I don't know if my heart would have taken the initial scare. I'm a bit of a sissy when it comes to poisonous snakes. (Pretty much all snakes)

375 H&H big enough to kill a Mamba? Bluey I know what you mean!! I am not much on the liking of any snake, not afraid of them if I see them first, it is those sudden sightings, where I have pulled the Jesus stunt, yes I am sure I have walked on water when surprised by a cottonmouth in the states.

This reminds me of that video of a Mountain biker being taken out by a Hartebeest while out riding in the veld.

Bicycle riding seems to be a dangerous activity.

Lucky, to say the least.

l rekon I watched that one 20 times briko ....
damn straight bwannabe , bobby has got the right theory on any and all snakes

I saw that video. I do try and do my part to send snakes to meet Jesus . I watched a Capstick video where he took a stick and moved a Puff Adder out of their path. My sense of animal conservation only goes so far. I would have moved him to where he could take the big dirt nap.

I live in a state where a former governor made it against the law to kill snakes. Yes its illegal to kill snakes where I live. But I venture to say no one obeys this law. Snakes should be delivered in at lest two parts, head separated from the rest of the body.

Guys we are all on this page because we ultimately share a passion for all things wild and remote, i would like to think of myself as an ethical hunter and CONSERVATIONIST, ultimately this means i conserve all species wild and free, from the butterflies to the dung beetles i drive off road to avoid squashing with my Landcruiser tires, to the Impala and Elephant. My clients are not allowed to step on a scorpion that pops out of a log on the fireplace just because it gives them the heebejeebees. Guys lets be conservationists here and educate ourselves about our natural environment, I can guarantee you that the modern day legends such as Ivan Carter and like don't go around stomping on scorpions that fall out of logs. and unscrupulously killing snakes that he knows to be venomous.I guarantee you that MEN of that calibre would be scrambling to their safari tent to grab a camera to capture the moment.
I unlike most living beings have a passion for reptiles, i go out and save them from homes and places that they are unwanted, now i don't expect you guys to try and capture a Black Mamba that is in your kitchen or your Bow blind, but for heavens sake people if its in the wild, in its natural habitat, don't kill the thing, let it live as its meant to as its supposed to. It is part of the bush and all these creatures make our hunting experience complete. Be TRUE CONSERVATIONISTS and conserve without prejudice. I have many pics of myself with Mambas if you guys are interested and i may not know everything however i do know more than most, (ps Tom the snake in your picture is actually a female boomslang and not a mamba) (observe your pic is of two Male Black Mambas doing what is reffered to as "combating" they do this to dominate each other for the right to be with the lady snake, whom wouldn't have been too far away from them, the victor will mate with her, this is done in winter)
