BOTSWANA: Hunt Report Kanana July 2013

I've just returned from another great safari with Kanana Safaris in Botswana. Three of us had a blast over 10 days. Report to come soon!!

We had a blast once again. I am waiting on our camera man to get the video clips loaded and some of the pictures sent to me. Lots of fun and animals!

wayne i heard there was a stack of trophies in the shed, and your whole report is going to be an epistle of biblical proportions ....and tom, patsy and tinus said they had a good time with you, but i believe the wind was a bit on the cold side!!

I got to hunt with JP a bit.
Letting him loose on the local wildlife is not really fair.

I can honestly say that the Baakie ride one morning on the run up to #1 to drop a hunter off had to be the second coldest Baakie ride I have had in Africa. Before sunrise, wind, minus 2 to 6C, frost, and a race to get to the blind.
I had almost every last bit of warm clothing i had along for the trip with me ON.

The coldest was the next morning, more humidity, after it RAINED. Humidity went up and the temp went down.
This morning I had EVERY LAST piece of warm clothing on including my rain gear to block wind.
Martin had warned me that it would be cold the next morning. I did not really believe him.
I learned all about humidity that morning. Desert.....hmmmm.

It will be proportional.... Still have not gotten back onto any sort of local time.

We'll get there.

The twelve volt solar system was great to work with to have light in your tent.

It was always dark when I came back to the tent or left the tent. I had a head lamp, (required equipment) but most times late at night or early in the morning the bulbs were so cold they would not illuminate without the gas getting a kick start from being warmed with your hand first. It took me a while to figure it out.
Energy efficient Fluorescents bulbs do not like the cold.

Speaking of frozen Diesel, that is another story all together for the RSA section of the report.
The anti gel agent used in RSA diesel is only good to -7C and that does not quite cut the mustard at -12C to -15C.
