Hello everyone, Having joined this site last week I am so impressed by the help everyone has offered on different questions I have asked. I am going to SA in 2015 for plains game and as some of you know I have been asking about Crusader Safaris. I have spoken to 6 clients/references and for the most part this outfit has come very highly recommended.

So he is going to be my Ph. Now another question I hope so of you experienced Africa hunters may be able to answer. I was thinking about having my trophies mounted in Africa by Highveld taxidermy, they are supposed to be a first class shop. Anyone have an opinion on mounting game in Africa or even better has anyone done business with Highveld taxidermy?

Johnnyblues, I would love to offer you some advice on SA taxidermy but we are in the same boat as you. This past trip we also decided to give it a go and have our mounts completed in SA. We went with Moredou Taxidermy and should have all competed items back in Apr.
In my opinion the quality was good from what I seen, prices were cheap compared to the US but once you add in the shipping back the overall price is about equal for equal quality work. Start checking prices now for various shops in your area that you think does good work, take them with you to compare and come up with complete cost and such. Either way good luck and look forward to hearing how your hunt turns out down the road.

I'm in the same boat as BnC. Same outfitter, same taxidermist. His advice is pretty spot on, though I felt overall with the quote I received both for the work and shipping, I'm coming out somewhat ahead, but not by a lot. The one thing you can at least count on, is that you don't have to worry about receiving dipped/packed hides that somehow by the time they arrive in the U.S. are now rotted and unusable. I don't think this a common problem, but it has happened.

Thanks, yes I have done that, it seems doing it there will be a little more cost effective. And I dont want to worry the hides are slipping. Highveld taxidermy who I have decided to use are supposed to be one of Africa's best. Hopefully we all make the right decision. REALLY looking forward to my first safari.

Check out Dennis Harris, I just bumped some of his work to the top of thread of posts. The Artistry of Wildlife does excellent work, worth checking out!

I had 7 animals mounted in SA, quality was great, but the shipping is horrific! From SA to Alaska, was $6000.00. Next time I will take more and better pictures and do a LOT less taxidermy.

Congratulations on choosing your outfitter.

I can only say LOOK at the Current work of any taxidermist yourself.
Ask, Who does the work?

I have had seen some great work, ok work and absolute junk. Be diligent in your choice.

Welcome to AH johnnyblues! I can't tell you much about the taxidermist in that area But you've picked a good outfitter so take his advice into consideration and check out the Taxidermist thet he recommends its worth a look. Bob

Bob, you should mention your taxidermist, they do good work.

Yes Cecil is Great I just dropped off 12 more to be mounted by him and I have no idea where the heck I'm going to put them. I don't know if it would be cost effective as I don't know where his outfitter is located but feel free to PM me if you would like some info.

Who did the work in SA?

Who did the work in SA?

Cecil at Umilindi Taxidermy in Tarkastad on the Eastern Cape. Feel free to send me a PM if you would like his contact info. Bob

Welcome to AH johnnyblues!

You won't go wrong with Crusaders Safaris.

I too am heading to RSA next summer (One year from now I'll be on SAFARI!!!!!) I am hunting with Marius at KMG.

I am torn between taxidemist at the moment, however, something to consider is contact a local taxidermist that youtrusst and negotiate a price. When you are looking at mounting 6-10 animals, you have some lee way in prices. that's between you and your taxidermist.

Bob - wil you post contact info for Cecil here? Does he have a web page?

Much thanks,

After 5 safaris in 3 countries the best work I have seen was my last South Africa hunt and everything went to Bulls Eye taxidermy in SA. Their work was the best I've seen in along time and in my living room 5 months from safari.

Hello Johnnyblues, i'm new to this site also. Have fun on your first african safari!, there a blast, and if you choose the right outfitter, it makes it even better. Best of luck

Welcome to the site. Everyone here has been just great, all are happy and willing to give advise, though I am a seasoned hunter having hunted thru out The United States,Canada,Alaska and New Zealand This will be my first trip to SA. Don't be afraid to ask any questions here. I have chosen to hunt with Induna Safaris they have such great references and from what I understand excellent quality trophies. Who are you hunting with? Regards. John
