SA Hunting
Good day everybody im new to this site! Im looking forward talking about hunting in SA coz it’s the best place to hunt in the world! Especially the Limpopo province! For hunting Kudu And all other Spiral Antelope! Ok I know all the hunting Areas are fenced but hunting in Botswana totally free range is very very expensive! The fenced areas in SA are Very Big Areas, there is Farm I know of up to 7000 hectares. If we go look at the SCI records we will all see that the best trophy quality on antelope has been shot in Limpopo! So guys please if hunting in SA or coming for a hunt in SA book in Limpopo province to make it a hunt you'll never forget and DONT let someone talk you out of that! If hunting Springbuck or Black wildebeest the Free State is the best! We all know an Africa hunting trip is very expensive so DONT waste your money, for the best trophy quality go to Limpopo province! We know people would do anything to get a hunt booked ! Make sure the hunt is TRUE ! Make sure your hunt in SA the first time will be unforgetable ! A False person can cost you alot of money so please people if you are looking for great antelope go to Limpopo province! :)

I have been hunting in Africa and take my word for it Limpopo province has the best Spiral horn antelope in Africa!!

Well Guy's good luck!

Cheers

wow

Wow ! great representation for the Limpopo !

I agree with you on certains animals the Limpopo is the best for - Limpopo bushbuck , warthogs , crocs, hipo , leopard.. maybe sum extras.....

Kudu are good there too but iv seen same sizes in Northern Cape , Eastern cape.... ( cheaper too )

I agree freestate / Northern cape for all plains game is the best by far ( body and horn size )!!!

If you want selection come to the Northern cape i can show you animals from all over africa ull think you are in a zoo not RSA. You will be amazed what huge farms and vast animals these Diamond Boys have here !

Regards.

Owen

mmm...

Hey Guys! I don’t want to get personal but in your last post you said and I quote "you will think its a zoo" Owen that is the problem with RSA, people have game farms 100 - 300 hectares full of game and then it looks like a zoo but lets be honest if I hunt I want it to be a challenge ! That what’s Africa is all about! So Owen im sorry but I would personally prefer to hunt on a farm where it is a challenge hunting my trophy! Limpopo can’t compare with Natal njala and bushbuck but the trophy quality is fare in Limpopo ! Very fare!

I meet hundreds of hunters and PH's and outfitter every year and all of them like hunting in Limpopo ! If bushbuck or black wildebeest or reedbuck ens is needed the PH / Outfitter / farm owner fly or drive them to a location in free state or any other province were the specie’s can be hunted ! That is the difference between a game farm (1500 hectares +) owners and fly by nights!!!

A good PH and Farm owner who hunt selectively will give his client the best trophy! I experienced this first hand!! And SCI records aren’t false! That is facts! So I would rather pay more and know im on my way to a great African experience! After all pay peanuts and expect monkeys!!

So guy if in doubt Just check the SCI records for trophy quality! And go have a look Limpopo province got the BEST maintained record on trophy Kudu Waterbuck, Blue wildebeest, warthog, Impala, zebra, Giraffe and good bushbuck and njala !

Cheers for now! Have work to do!

mmmm

Hi,

When i said " zoo " did i mention the size of the zoo ? No because actually its size is 4000 hectares not 300 hectars.... Most of the game farms i know are all from 3000 hct + We have farmers here with 30 000 hct farms very wild private which you dont find actually in other places in SA.

I too only agree on a fair chase and if being hunted it should all be at least 2500 hectars plus then its fair.

All over SA you get hame farms from 200 hectares - 1000 hectares that are like zoo's even in Limpopo it just depends on what the hunter wants.

As you mentioned if you want selection where ever you are located all outfitter source the game form other areas. What i meant is if you dont want to travel alot the Northern cape / freestate / eastern cape has much more various species.

If all hunters looked at SCI records and really took it to mind then there would be no business for outfitters outside Limpopo ? Actualy well booked with hunts so we must be doing or have something that is worth the money !

I love the Limpopo its pretty and has some great species with some good prices !!

Regards,

owen

mmm...

Owen PLEASE im not saying your place is small but like you just said and n quote "If all hunters looked at SCI records and really took it to mind then there would be no business for outfitters outside Limpopo!” So you said it yourself Limpopo is the best in RSA fir big Kudu, Waterbuck, Blue wildebeest, whorthoug and all other species!

The problem is there are too many liars! There is no way in hell a Kudu gets as big in the cape as a Kudu in Limpopo ! I mean All days are called GREATER KUDU LAND! Why would that be????? No place got Kudu as big as those in Limpopo ! I have hunted in all 9 provinces in RSA including Mozambique Zambia Botswana! Never hunted in Namibia but Know Eland and Gems buck get very big there!

If you want to go to the cape go hunt the species that the cape is known for like Springbuck Blesbuck Bontebok Klipspringer ens your smaller species! By all means I give the credit to the Cape for those species!

People lei on this site! I've been looking at this site for a while and let me tell you guys don’t let someone lei to you about where to hunt what! A 46" Kudu is not an unlucky Kudu its just plain small! A 20" Impala aren’t unlucky it’s small! And that the sizes you are looking at in the Cape! But VERY BIG Blesbuck Klipspringer and Springbuck ens can be found in the Cape! And a very nice variety of Springbuck! I've been on a hunt in the cape where 4 gold medal SCI Springbuck were shot! Common white copper and black!

So guys look out for liars! Here are 6 tips you can follow before booking a hunt.

1. Is it a privately own farm?
2. How big is the farm ?
3. What can the Outfitter offer you ?
4. Check SCI records to see if the area has got good trophy records for the species on your list !
5. Can your outfitter/PH/Owner show you last years pictures of the species hunted that are on your list to see if the trophy quality is there!
6.Can your Outfitter/PH/Owner offer you SAFE transportation where ever you go on the hunt ?

Please guys make sure the hunt is not a lie ! Don’t let people lei to you and be disappointed after the hunt ! Hunting in Africa is great if your outfitter is a farm owner and the ph ! Then you can’t lose !

Cheers guy chat later!

Hi guy's I am usually the first person to give my 2 cents on the matter and end up getting involved with matters that are a bit fired up LOL so I will only mention two key things here.

1 The proof is in the pudding and one has to travel to different area's to get the best trophy since hunting a species in its indigenous habitat is always to best regardless of trophy size it effects the quality of the hunt ass well.

2 As for property size one can have a big area to your deposal thanks to the cooperation of neighboring farms and if managed effectively you can improve on the trophy quality of the whole hunting area .My property is 5000 archers but I hunt on a total of 30 000 archers, when I am on my property I don’t need to check with anyone before I tell a client that we can take the animal and that in my point of few says a whole lot.

Fair chase is in the method of hunting not necessarily in the size of property or whether it is fenced or not just my opinion?

Cheers guys

hi

Hi WheretoHuntSA,

Let me just summerize the last facts :

All game farmers buy in new game for a new blood line so lets use some game as examples. Gemsbuck and springbuck from Khalahari/namibia with very well know size body and horns bought by a limpopo or northern cape farmer..who gets the credit here ?

Same with kudu the old South West Africa / Nam has massive stuff and i know of many chaps that bought them in all over SA ... again is this now a SA kudu or SWA kudu ?

What im saying is all game have studied management and breeding ways and keep upto date with this and watch their game progress.

My point being that you can shoot any size trophy anywhere these days in RSA as we have worked in species all over in all areas to adapt.Hunters dont know where the outfitters buy their game from.

owen

So I guess what I would conclude,is if someone tells you just to hunt one area....say Limpopo....and tells you that it is always the best....that is not exactly the truth.

Hmmm;kinda like a lie?:D

Wow!!! What was suppose to be a greeting is now a serious thread.

First of all welcome to A/H WheretohuntSA.

After reading the posts on this thread the hair on my back stood up for accusations made by both parties. I support Louis on this one 100%. 1. The best trophy’s are those indigenise to the area in there own habitat. 2. Good trophy’s is the end product of good management.

Please do not generalize S.A. game farmers owenowen. There are some large farms in South Africa that offer exceptional hunting opportunities to hunters. We haven’t bought a single animal in on our ranch in the last 20 years for new genes and bigger horn sized animals. Yes if your area is to small, you need to do this to provide next years clients with animals and yes if your management is not up to standards you need to do that.

Thank you.

Neil once again we see eye to eye on matters.

Good on you Neil!
;)

hi

Hi,

Fair enough i agree that all areas have their special big trophies its like that all over the world. The area is the hunters choice. I never said that all SA game farms are small.

Yes not small, but buy new blood lines.

hi

Thanks,

Well noted about the genes not farm size.
Maybe some don't buy in game but the majority do. ( i shudnt have used "all" forgive me :)

Hi Guys i want to mention one more thing. We as outfitters cannot hunt just one area, my area in Limpopo is 15000 acres i hunt this area for 12 years only me, we have never introduce any new blood lines to the area maybe one day we will have too. I will gladly supply any person with pictures of kudu between 57 and some 60 inch taken on this property in the past, but we count our animals every year and then plan on how many we want to hunt, what i am saying is , we do have very good blood lines on Kudu in the Limpopo and other animals and we should keep it this way. But where do you go if your client ask you for Eastern Cape Kudu well then you go to the Eastern cape i have hunted many Eastern Cape Kudu in the past, some very good ones i remeber one bull that made 53 inch this was my best with a client in this area about 14000 acres and next to a 60000 acre game reserve with a low fence in the mountains. I am sure some of you Eastern Cape guys took bigger. But my point is lets keep it real do not introduce that Southern greater kudu into your area in the Eastern Cape as we need your kudu as it is. Make me think were can i hunt that 34 inch Waterbuck this year maybe LIMPOPO.

Wheretohunt, welcome to the forum.

You have made some intersting points - not all of which I agree with...

The purpose of this post is NOT to pick a fight but I would like to share my opinion with you.

Firstly, I live and hunt in Limpopo and it is indeed a great province to hunt in but to state that it is the "best" Province to hunt is in my opinion not 100% accurate. Depending on what your target species are there could be many other areas in Africa that would be better suited for your hunt - especially if you want to hunt an animal in its natural habitat.

I don't understand why you would want to compare the prices of hunting unfenced areas in Botswana with those of hunting fenced areas in Limpopo when the Tuli Block of Botswana e.g. offers ranch hunting at prices that compare very favourably to that in Limpopo.

Your statement that most of the SCI record book trophies were taken in Limpopo may be true but not all hunters hunt with a tape measure in one pocket and the SCI record book in the other. Some hunters actually visit Africa for the experience of hunting and not to get their names listed in a book. Having said this - I am not implying that there is anything wrong with hunting for an exceptional trophy... I am saying though that SCI's record book is NOT the Bible of hunting and the size of trophies taken during a safari does not relate to a successful or good "experience".

ANY province can be great to hunt in. What makes for a satisfactory experience is the Outfitter you choose...

My 2c.

Regards,

Hi wheretohuntSA,

Welcome to AH. I agree with Chris, the Limpopo Province is not a 100% the best area to hunt in. I operate in the North West Province of South Africa and Kudu's in this area are MONSTERS too...

Limpopo

Hi guys !

First of all ! To whom this may consern. I know you love hunting in Limpopo ! And I know most of your concessions are in Limpopo ! Think about that I dont want to get personal but you will know who its ment for !

I said Limpopo is the best for selected Species ! And SCI records don’t lie ! So go have a look at the records ! I gave my credit to Cape and yes I know North-west got some very nice kudu as well !

I never said anyone is lying but if you feel guilty maybe then your are one of those liars ! EACH AREA IS KNOWN FOR THERE SPICIES ! Limpopo being the best for Kudu waterbuck . . . If you go look at the records you will all see that ! What I say on this forum is not made up by me it’s based on FACTS. I was looking at a very interesting program on BBC last night about hunting in Limpopo ! This was in the All day’s area to be specific !

So Im not here to make money ! Im not an outfitter or a PH but I know how people lie to hunters and that needs to STOP !!!!!!!!! I experienced first hand how hunters are being lied to ! I fell in that same hole !

Everybody who thinks that im trying to make Limpopo the best your thinking right Limpopo and North-west and the best for the selection of species I mentioned in my previous post ! And that is bases on SCI FACTS !!!

So please people go have a look at the FACTS ! Im not here to make money im here to stand by the HONEST outfitters/PH/owners that is trying to get clients by telling them the truth ! And I know allot of the people on this forum and hunted with allot of you guys and most of these I hunted with I n-joyed working with ! BUT PLEASE BE SURE OF YOUR FACTS BEFORE PUTTING IT ON BLACK AND WHITE !

I need to apologize for my long introduction I don’t really know how this forum works so im just typing back on my replies! All that welcomed me thank you for your kindness !

Thanks guys.

Cheers !

Nice to see your enthusiasm, but I think your missing the point.

By constantly calling LIAR and saying people are not getting there facts strait;you make yourself out to be quite the pompous a$$ and in the forum world a troll....

The SCI record books are full of entries skewed to hunters with more money then sense.IMO

If you wish to start a discussion about game management practices, why not do so?I think many hunters on the board would be interested in how different approaches are taken by different owners.

You don't need a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

Dinsdale

BUT PLEASE BE SURE OF YOUR FACTS BEFORE PUTTING IT ON BLACK AND WHITE !Cheers !

EXCELLENT advice:thumb:... that you may want to consider taking for yourself...;)

Good Hunting!

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.
