I did some searches on airfares to see what I can expect to pay next year. It looks like flights to the Johannesburg airport is cheaper than Port Elizabeth. I guess this would play into the overall cost of what the outfitter is charging. Also, if I booked a flight for next month or so compared to next April or May, the flights were 40% less for next year. Also, it looks like Virgin Airlines had the best rates. I am leaving from the New York Area so if any of you guys have any advice, I appreciate it.

Airfares are not included in what an outfitter charges, so I don't see how they would affect outfitter fees. Also, can you fly directly to Port Elizabeth from overseas? I assumed you flew to JNB and then on to Port Elizabeth from there which would mean flights to JNB would always be less.

I found that it was cheaper to fly to J-Burg as a final destination than to Port Elizebeth I think the fact that larger airlines have more daily/weekly service makes the flight more reasonable,,

Rob, can you fly to Port Elizabeth from the U.S. without stopping in JNB?

Well then, OF COURSE, the fare to JNB is going to be less than the fare to PE since it is a subset of the latter route.

To be more clear, if an outfitter requires you to land in Port Elizabeth, the round trip airfare increase for you will be substantially higher. So, it may appear that you are getting a good deal with an outfitter but will more than pay it back with airfare.

exactly why I chose from one of the many fine Outfitters who pick up at J-Burg,,,,I,m allready paying 400.00 more to fly from MSP Thru Atlanta instead of taking a commuter to Ohare Chicago and then head over the lake and a Layover in Europe ,then to J-burg,,one less plane change,,also gets me in Friday Night instead of Saturday

Just looked up flights from JNB to PE for next June, the price is a whopping $110 US. For the price of one night in a crappy hotel you can hunt wherever you choose.

Boy, that is A LOT cheaper than when I went last!

You have to consider other potential problems and delays like lost luggage and extended layover time when adding another stop.

I see what you guys are saying now, but if hunting the East Cape I'm always going to fly to Port Elizabeth or East London. If someone WERE willing to pick me up at JB and drive me to the East Cape, well, that would be a LONG drive that I'd not want to do.

I agree with you!

I haven't personally flown to PE but Bloemfontein was similarly priced last spring. $130 I believe.

I disagree. I have had the great fortune of being able to drive through a good bit of SA and seeing the countryside and everything in it is well worth the trip. I love it.

I too would say that if you have the time, a bit of road trip thru RSA or anywhere for that matter is worth it. I spent some time in RSA in '09 traveling from the hunt camp up to the north of the country sightseeing and it was very rewarding.

It all depends on how open the land, the trip from JNB to the Limpopo for the most part is like driving in the USA.
I sometimes hate to put miles on a PH's truck, just because their vehicles costs are very crazy expensive. I think they very much appreciate doing less driving too.
Driving around certain parts of RSA is nice because of the hills and valleys, it can be very scenic.

i think there are a lot of tradeoffs,,I haven,t settled on how I,m getting to J-Burg,,,I,m sure Lori will find the best deal and route,,,I,m still 11 months out but I want to book early just in case the prices go up

Until this guy posts something on pay it forward free I would avoid him at all costs.

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.

Hey pal! I'll take all the .375 bullets if they're available.
Thanks!
