Greetings All!
Ok, here goes. I am a female, semi-veg, liberalish huntress. I am a native Coloradan and my first hunt was as an observer with my dad in Zim, 2010 (a buff hunt). I never had anything against hunting as long as it was ethical, legal and the animal was given respect. So I tagged-along as the photographer/caretaker and after three days, my whole perception had changed. A month after our hunt in Senuko I decided to book my first hunt for a buffalo with my 17 year-old son as my companion for August of 2011. Just me and him. So I was baptized by fire as they say, because I got that buff on day number 4, with no one dying, with one shot and a year's worth of serious anxiety laid to rest. How's that for a vegetarian liberal woman? I returned with my dad again that same year in November, and again solo in June of 2012 for my eland. Thanks to Shangaan Hunters, my amazing PH Glenn Stockil, my tracker friends, James (rip), Webster and Johan; Jason (appy), Claytos, Newman, Martin, Forever African Safaris, Areva Travel/Afton House, and Ron Oliver of African Hunting Safaris for making my four hunts in Africa the best most wonderful experience EVER!!! I have not one complaint. Thank you also to the wonderful staff from both camps, Senuko and Savuli, that I have not mentioned by name.. You are a blessed group of wonderful folks!! I am forever in your debt!! Most of all I want to thank the Save conservancy for standing strong and doing the right thing.
Jane

Welcome to AH Jane! Looking forward to having you with us!

One more thing, I did eat some of the flesh of the animals I harvested. It was spectacular. Especially the eland liver. I owed that to those magnificent beasts..

hi jane welcome to AH, yup they do taste good dont they. :D

Welcome to AH, Jane!

Welcome Jane.....I love reading the excitement in your first post. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome to the forum jane. Eland liver I did not eat last time I was there. I have a deal with Capehunter, that if he puts me on a Warthog bigger than the one I shot last time, that I would try it.

Hello 35!!
Well do yourself a favor and indulge in an eland liver asap. Preferably one that you or your companions harvested yourselves. The chefs at Senuko prepared it in a way that caused immediate addiction on my part. And I am a semi-vegetarian!! I have a feeling I am not alone with this opinion regarding the pure ecstasy of consuming an eland liver (cooked).

Glad to have you apart of AH. There aren't very many things in the world better than hunting with your dad and your son. If you would care to share some pics and stories from your hunts we would love to see them.

Since you are already a member of DSC, you should come to the dinner planned on Friday night at the convention. Beware! Hang around here long enough and you may become a carnivore!

Hello! If I shoot or hook it I must eat some of it. My tribute . The trip(s) and experience with my dad changed our entire relationship (as daughter and father) for the better. I learned to respect my dad and for the first time he learned to respect me. As far as the time with my son alone, I have no words to describe it as yet. Not always easy to interpret a young man's feelings so I just kind of go with the flow. Pretty sure we had an amazing time.. How many of you men here on this forum will ever brag "My MOM took me to Zimbabwe for her buff hunt! Just me and her". As far as photos I will post some for sure soon.. Kind of shy..

:),

You can adopt me Jane! I'll go back to Zim with you!!....LOL

On my first trip to Africa I went to the East Cape. After taking my Eland the staff fried some of the liver up for appetizers before dinner. Now, I always despised liver! But, I tried it out out respect for the staff and the Eland. It was the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. It would melt in your mouth it was so tender and the flavour was out of this world!

I agree, I doubt there are too many mother-son combos that go to Africa.

Sorry, forgive my edits, .. I know there are many more like you and me that are addicted to the eland liver. Cheers!!

gi jane,

No need to mention you are a semi-vegetarian liberal. Lots of us hunt and own guns. Having conservative political and social standards doesn't entitle you to a monopoly on this great sport. Let me know when you graduate to being a progressive liberal :)

Loved your first report, and kudos to you for taking your son. The more we expose our youth to different experiences and ideas the more 'rounded' a human they will be.

loved your story Jane! Glad you took your son with you! Will for sure try Eland liver on my next trip. Eland and Nyala are on my list for sure! Brian

Welcome to AH Jane! Now your going to have me going bck for another Eland I never tried Eland Liver don't like liver but now you've got me wondering what I missed. I took a Caribou once that was in the rut gave the thing away every bite you took tasted like beef liver! YUK!! But now I've got to try the Eland. A vegetarian that has enough respect to at lease try the game she takes will go far in our goals of Conservation. Glad you joined us.

Welcome GIJane! I too may have to have a go at the eland liver next trip too. Like many liver has never been on my menu, but this sounds interesting. And I hope you dont graduate to progressive liberal! We have more than enough of those to go around right now.;)

Until this guy posts something on pay it forward free I would avoid him at all costs.

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.

Hey pal! I'll take all the .375 bullets if they're available.
Thanks!
