Just got back from Zim-my first Africa trip-Hunted with Russ Broom Safaris in Matetsi One(Mostly). Absolutely beautiful area and saw thousands of Buffalo. I was after Buff/Plains game and filled all my tickets plus an extra one. Impala, Buff, Waterbuck, Warthog, Zebra and Kudu.

I had a very hard time my permits stamped by Parks to allow me to hunt. Problems with the concession owner not paying his quota fees, I believe. Supposed to start hunting Friday-First day of hunting was Monday. Broom and Co treated us well in the interim-sent us (Wife and I) on a private tour of Chobe Park in Botswana. Later in the week, problems developed with my Kudu permit and we went Tiger Fishing on the Zambezi for a day. Hunted for the Kudu on community land adjoining Matetsi One and really enjoyed the interaction with the villagers.

I chose Zim for a reason. I wanted more adventure than a SA or Namibia hunt. I got it-seeing a pride of lions hunting buffalo in a Wild Area and almost running into a breeding herd of elephants while on a Kudu stalk was awesome.

At times, I was very frustrated with the whole permit thing, But "This is Africa." My only real disapointment is that I only got about 1 hour of buff hunting as my first stalk on Tuesday morning led to a buff in the salt. I had visions of several days and several stalks on buff.

I'm glad you were ok with the interrupted hunt, me not so much. Thanks for the honest hunt report!

Not so OK with it-but not much I could do about it.

I would go back to Zim-but, I could not, in good consciensce, advise a friend to go there unless they fully understood the risks.

Thank you for posting your hunt report, sorry to hear.

I hear you, I hope you get your animals home safe. These permit problems bother me BIG TIME. This is no way to run a business, especially customer based.

Thanks for the hunting report, we would love to see some pics first chance you get.

Thanks for the report Breaker, I'm leaving for Zim in 10 days you got any advice or words of wisdom you would like to share. We're hunting with SSG down in Malapati, I'm just hoping to get everybody and all our gear there in one piece.

All I can say is that if problems arise with getting your permits stamped-be an early advocate for getting moved elsewhere. The hardest part was watching the hunting days dwindle.

Basically, if problems arise-start pushing for developing Plan B's and C's and ask SSG to be fully honest with you about what the situation is-etc. Keep in mind-any Plan B or C might take a little while to implement-therefore push for a Plan early.

At least, at Matetsi we had some tourist type options for a couple of the days.
Also, bring some reading material!!!!!!!

No pics. Try Photobucket.

Russ Broom Safaris really should have known about this before you landed. Nothing helps now and its good plans B & C worked out.

Yes, that's Africa.
