Do I need long pants or shorts? (or zip-offs) What kind of material???

If you like scratches wear shorts.

Those zip off type work well enough.

My ghostly white legs would give me away with even the best bushcraft, so long pants it is for me.

Both will work.

Now what month will you be going on your safari.

Cotton well worn pants or shorts will work great.

If you bleed easy and well go with the pants as every thing want to nip at you. as info your blood trail could and maybe will interfere with your game animals if wearing shorts.

1st week May 2014

Looking at the weather for May.

You will have the low's in the 40's

You will have high's in the 60's

A layered system will work best. Take along a nice sweater or jacket for the early mornings.

I would go with cotton pants if it were me.

Stay away from polyester zip-offs. They're noisy and damage easily. I'd also suggest going with long pants. They save your skin.

Longs would be my suggestion, I only wear longs to church!!!! but thorn can really put a hurt on untrained legs.. :)

My best always

must be a lot of asking forgiveness during those church sessions!! ;) i would go shorts as walking through the bush in longs would drive me up the wall. also thorns seem to tear/slide through/over skin easier than cloth, so you dont get hooked up as much. i dont think you feel the thorns etc that much when youre walking anyway, maybe you just get used to it. but do make sure you have a warm wind proof coat as you will freeze on the back of the vehicle in the morning and in the evening , and maybe a balaclava and gloves, as sitting there with the wind chill can be a miserable experience if you havent got warm kit....

You get used to it for sure if your not be careful.... :) Spike we have a joke if its really cold I wear two pairs of shorts..... :)

My best always.

And when it becomes unbearable you might add longer socks.:heh:
I would also suggest long pants or for the not so regular hunter, and some good insect repellant for those pepper ticks!!

Best Regards

This is what the potential result could look like if you were to follow the Jack Russel at speed through thick and heavy thorn brush... :)

yup!! think we had better get back to the subject, so how about reloading your photo of what happens to legs when shredded by thorns.....:D also do you keep your tongue in or out when going through thorns?:hmmmer::laughing:

I use old army issue brown overall's with canvas patches on the knees and elbows. Works well for me..except, sometimes, if I've got gyppo-guts.. :biggrin2:
