I have always been hunting with pro am amunition but could not find it at my nearist gun shop. The owner sold me Remington core lokt. Can I trust Remington as much as Pro am?

I used the 140 grain Remington core lokts in my 7mm-08 before i started reloading, they group reasonably well and i didn't have any problems while on the range or hunting. I hunted a number of different animals with the ammo while culling (including one kudu bull) and most bullets retained more than 97 percent of there original weight.
You shouldn't have a problem, try them out on the range and see how they group in your rifle.
What calibre will you be using them in?

Cheers

Hippo, I have used Remington Core Lokt ammo for well over 2 decades and have taken quite a few animals. I am sure you will have the "nay sayers" respond to your post, but I am all for the way the Core Lokt preform. I have used them in 243, 6mm rem, 270, 30-06, 35Whelen, 338 win mag, 300 win mag and all have grouped well and kill the wildlife just fine. My son uses my 6mm Rem and he has taken 4 Whitetail with it ALL one shot kills. As long as they group good from your rifle, I don't think you will have any issues.

I use Remington Core Lokt 140 grain in my 6.5x55 Mauser with good success. I never had a deer complain - they were all dead! The last shot was at a measured 310m, estimated 40m up, standing, with a branch as support. It went through, shattering both shoulders of a fallow deer, and exited. No question, it does what it should, and does it well.

Agree with you entirely.

Cautions
They are not brush busters, nor big bone breakers.
Put them in the boiler room and you'll have Biltong.

Good luck.

I use 140 grain Core Lokt in my 7mm Mag and after sighting it in with 3 bullets I have successfully taken 17 deer with the rest of the one box with one shot kills. I have also killed Elk, Wild Boar, Bear and other critters using core lokt ammo. Which reminds me I need to get some more for my 7mm Mag. Take care!

I think the Core lokt bullet work great and they are usually accurate in most rifles...prices for them aren't bad either!

Hi all. Thanks for the reply's. I do trust core lokt now and can't wait to test them in the field next week.

Feedback on hunt

What a hunt! Took down 4 Impalla and a wardhog. Not to impressed with the Remington core lokt. Took a head shot and took off half the head. Could reatreave 1 bullet and hals gone.

Well it is a soft boattail and I'm sure you could have lead core seperation, especially if you hit a solid bone. It's not a bullet in my mind to take head shots, ideally. It's really excellent for taking the double lung shot.

In general head shots at trophy animals are not recommended (for the taxidermist) however a charging buffalo or grizzly may dictate differently ...

I would recommend the Barnes bullets for an all around bullet, they don't care about bone.

I've had core-lokts do some goofy things. I hit a white-tail behind the shoulder, and the bullet turned toward the front, and then turned upward and exited the top of the neck! Another time I hit behind the shoulder and the bullet turned and exited the front of the chest. This was decades ago, tho.

Sounds like they preformed well for you, 4 Impala and a Warthog. With the head shot scenerio, why would it matter if it took off half of the head? Sorry, I have had great luck using them, and most soft point ammo would have had the same results on a solid bone hit, i.e. skull.

My friend hunts with 30-06, 180 core lokt bullets, I guarentee if you hit him in the lungs, he isn't going far.

More than half the bullet were gone on a Impalla ram. I wanted to take a shot on a wildebees but do not think the bullet could do it???

You were quite close when you were shooting is my bet.
They are soft bullets. At the faster end/closer end of the bullet path they do shed weight quickly.
You can be left doubting penetration.

130gn- Corelokt -.270 under the skin on off side of a Moose taken at 400 yards. Perfect mushroom.
Dropped the Moose.

To bad you did not feel confident with them to take your beest.
They would do the trick. Honest.
Put one into the boiler room.

35 Bore.
I know this is an old post. I bought 500 100grain core lokt for my son's 25. Shoots them very accurately, less than an inch at 100 yards and 3,300 fps. Kills game in OZ real well. If kept in there velocity parameters they are great. They tend to be explosive at closer ranges when used in my 25 at almost 3,700 fps.
Where do you get your 35 cal core lokt. They aren't available in OZ, what weight are they.
Cheers mate Bob
