The "other half" wants a mountain lion on our wall I just haven't been out on one yet. I'd rather spend the money on tickets to Africa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mountain lion is pretty good, I have tried far worse, including Alaskan Brown Bear (really bad but I had to try it,) beaver (horrid really dark meat), horse meat (never again) Javelina (just nasty smelling critters) not a fan of Black Bear, on the plus side of North America game Elk, Moose, Bison, Caribou all excellent, deer is good

my mate in Canada tells me that moose is the best table fare of your deer species , is that about right
and bison is said to be darn good also
ive eaten elk and that's almost as good as our samba deer

just as well you werent shopping in some uk supermarkets not long ago or you would have been eating horse in everything i had black bear meat done as bolognaise sauce with spaghetti at a friends, who shot it in the hills near where he lived in ojai california, it was very good, had seconds and as for beaver, well depends what sort.....:wink:

Have to agree with Arizona about the Brown bear meat...yuck! Tried it and not again.

Made a stew using Wolverine, Lynx, Caribou & Black bear. Took it to work and within minutes the croc pot was emptied, was awesome eats.
Any Black bears that are have been eating berries are more then welcome to grace our plates at dinner..Those that are heavy on fish don't get invited over for dinner

As far as mountain lions go, there are a couple of U.S. states that require the hunter to quarter the trophy and take the meat to the check-in station. If they do not want it, it goes to a food bank. Lots of westerners that hunt them eat it...Maybe there is a member on here from one of those states who could comment further..

And, as for you guys squeamish from eating an animal like a wild boar because you are afraid of what they comsume, you are being a bit naive... Just about every animal on the planet will comsume something nasty from time to time to survive. Almost all newborn mamals consume feces from their parents to get bacterial cultures in their systems necessary for their immune systems to develope...

From that mindset, lobster & king crab would have to be the most vile, disease-ridden creatures on the planet based on what they comsume. They are scavengers... They eat rotten flesh and feces of other marine creatures...Feel free to send me all of your unwanted lobsters and crabs...I'll be glad to take those filthy animals off your hands anytime...

Yeah, I never thought cougar or mountain lion, if you prefer, was commonly eaten until I saw it featured on one of these TV hunting shows. The outfitter was explaining the process to the hunter after the cat was taken. They actually cooked some up and showed them all trying it out....They said it compared closely to rabbit in taste.... I believe the state the cat was taken was Utah, but I'm not certain....

I don't eat pork for the simple reason I don't like the taste or texture of the flesh I try not to even touch it(forwhat its worth I don't hunt it on this principal ) .
and crab meat is to rich in taste and crayfish (lobster) leaves a after taste in my mouth that I find disagreeable , now deep sea bugs are a crusteacean that I eat at evry opportunity and I would hate to think what they consume to survive . I will post a picture of one of them over the next day or so (once I catch one. so you can maybe put a name to them )as we generally see them daily and its hard to keep them alive for market so we let em go usualy .
and some of the crap ive eaten that ive hunted here just so I can say ive eaten it aint real flash either .
but theres some things that I cant bring my self to ingest and im sorry mate but that's just me .and I cant see it changing anytime soon

mounain lion is very light colored and mild flavored , they prefer to kill and eat fresh meat and are excellent table fare, great chicken fried steaks. Most meat taste relates to how it was handled.

Have any of you Africa hunters ever eat a lion, leopard, or cougar? Was it weird? Did it taste good?

My wife and I have tried african lion. It tasted just like seasoned pork chops to me. But that may have been the fact that it was marinated in yogurt for about 5 days and well seasoned. We liked it and wouldn't mind having again.

Most meat taste relates to how it was handled.

I believe that s the main point, wild boar can be a delicacy if the meat has been well handled, and the cook knows how to deal with it. Otherwise, it s just a piece of hard, strongly flavored meat.

I attended a hunter s dinner where the cook prepared wild boar in seven different ways. Delicious !

There are a few western and mid-western states that have cooperations established with food banks and rescue missions to take both donated game and game that was confiscated by game wardens. I would love to see something like that organized on a national level. It's a great concept that would directly benefit those in need. I believe many hunters would respond generously if they had a program available in their area.
