Hi guys,

I was offered a second hand Steyr Mannlicher in 375H&H but I cant find any information on second hand prices anywhere for this calibre. I have found 308, 7x64, 9.3x62 etc. prices but I haven't come across a 375 price yet.

I shot the rifle over the weekend and it feels really really good in my hands. It is also in a very good condition (its a family friend and he looks after his rifles better than his wife...) the rifle is 8 or 9 years old and has been looked after really well.
He is moving to Mozambique and is selling off his guns.

What would be a fair price on such a rifle? He wants R16000 (roughly $1750 or 1350 Euro).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there's one on gunbroker for $2300 US,
Any rifle or gun is worth what you're willing to pay for it.

Sounds like a good price.

Go ahead and buy it, I'll pick it up when I hit SA in 2016....

Seriously, buy it, if it shoots good and hell it's a Styer so it should be sound.

Post some pics.

Sounds like a good price to me, I would love to see some pics.

I'm going to give it another look and shoot this coming weekend, will take some pics of it then and post them for you guys.

The production of this model dropped in 1996, when the new SBS 96 appeared. So this gun is older than 17 years. One problem of this model is the magazin of "Makralon". If you are buying such a model, try to get a second magazine - they are hard to get. There is another part of Makralon under the receiver, with the time this part can split and the gun shoots bad. This part is also hard to get from Steyr. the 375 HH was built in the Mod S and in the Mod ST(ropen). The Mod ST has a heavier barrel and is was more expensive. Another problem of these models was the safety. During the shooting the safety can be throwned back and the bolt is locked - no repeating ....

Thank you, if I do take the rifle I will definitely start looking for a second magazine. This is the Model S, so thank you for clearing that up, also spoke to the guy a bit more, he has had the rifle for 9 years in his own name, it was his father in laws before his. But it still shoots beautifully and is really comfortable.

So now I just need to make up my mind on the matter.

Look at picture 4 right beside the screw - the part of Makralon is allready broken, this will cause great problems . This part has to be replaced - often done here in Austria, where the gun comes from.

Thanks Mannlicher I didn't even spot it! I will try get hold of Brooklyn Circle Gunsmiths to see if they have a spare part - or do you think it will be better to go for a different maybe newer model instead of the second hand one?

..get yourself a brand new CZ 550 and a nice Lynx scope for more or less the same amount, David..

Is it not possible to epoxy and re-inforce that area? I assume it's a plastic or polymer part?
If it's metal it should be brazed and re-inforced.
How many rounds have been through the gun? Would bedding the action solve that problem in the future?

The new parts are reinforced with steel and the problem is solved for decades. Steyr has only one model in 375, it is the "Luxus" with the possibility of changing barrels.
The standard version is the "ProHunter" - the best, what you can get for your money, but not in 375HH Mag ! I have one in 8x68 S,
shoots like a benchrest rifle, good enough for all pg . With the 220 gr Swift A-Frame also for buffalo - where legal.

I just bought a Steyr Mannlicher S Tropen in 375H&H, I have not shot it yet but not keen on the plastic mag and mag. well/trigger guard but it is what it is, it did not stop me buying as always been after one for years....

I think you’ll be pleased with it. I picked up a Steyr Mannlicher Luxus in .375 and it’s a brilliant shooter, even being a touch light for the caliber.
