Lightning has struck... I won this safari at a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation fund raiser. It is a 7 day hunt in 2014 for me and a non-hunter(my wife) that includes everything from Johanusburg Airport out and back. It includes all licenses and fees for an Impala and a Wildebeast, all food, lodging, trophy prep, and tranfer fees.

It has always been a dream of mine to do a hunt like this. Has anyone out there hunted with Warthog Safaris? I plan on adding 3 or 4 more animals to my list, a zebra, a gazzelle, a gemsbok, and maybe a water buffalo finances allowing. The only rifle I own is a 30.06 which should be good for everything except the buffalo. There are rifles available for my use as part of the package if needed so I guess I will use one of them for the buffalo. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kirk

Cant help ya with Warthog, but congrats on winning the hunt! If you want water buffalo you will have to go elsewhere though. In southern Africa they are Cape buffalo.;) Welcome to the forum and good luck!!

My ignorance shows. Thanks for the correction on the cape buffalo.

Welcome to AH Cptkirk! Congrats on your win the 30-06 will do fine and if you decide to hunt Buffalo just rent one of there big bore rifles its a lot cheaper the buying one just to hunt Buff. What part of South Africa is Warthog Safaris located in?

According to the info I received with the package they have camps in the Limpopo area(where my hunt will be), another in Freestate. I read somewhere they have 15,000 acres for bow hunting only and 100,000 acres for gun hunting.

Well I read the hunting report at less half of it but it was worth reading sounds like a great place to hunt. The whole report may have been posted but if my memory serves me right this is about the time when AH changed servers and things got messed up and Jerome had to back everything up a few days and a lot of post got deleted. but you can click on see his photos and see the animals he got some very nice trophies.

Congratulations on the hunt. You might want to PM providerrick to find out more about his experiences. Best of luck!
