What the deal with Canada? I know a few people who had problems crossing the border from US if they had a dui arrest even if it was diverted. Some of these were over five years ago. I quess Arab terrorist have more rights than a drunk.

Must be tit for tat. Works both ways.

I know someone who just had to wait for an 18 month pardon process to be able to enter the USA to visit his property. All over a charge that was THIRTY years old. Nothing else since.

Others have been refused entry to the US for similar types of occurrences like you noted.

Impaired driving or DUI as you note is a "Felony" up here.
Creates a Criminal Record and the person convicted hits the "undesirable list".

All depends on the policy of the day.

Perhaps it is pay back for the USFWS trying to ban Polar Bear hunting at the CITES meeting last month.

Diplomacy is great!

Lots of US citizens try to cross the border on the way to Alaska assuming they can carry their hand guns on their road trip.
If it is enforcement day at the border a lot of people get turned around or if the officers are grumpy, they confiscate the weapons.
All by chance.

This year crossing into the US my firearms were not even inspected. Not even for serial number verification.
Many other times I have had to pull them out and confirm serial numbers.
This occurs on planes or by ground.
You never know.

Sucks to get to the border and get the news.

So it looks like the hunting and fishing outfitters in both countries are suffering from this. I wonder how long it will last. I hate to admit it but most of my hunting and fishing buddies tip a few and some have had dui's but I do not think any of them would drive up to Canada and drive around drunk while they were hunting or fishing.

We have to be careful what we say, the USA is not too kind about other citizens bringing guns into the country...or felony convictions and other such things.

With all the paperwork I have to fill out to take my guns anywhere, it does not appear that any country is overly friendly.
Namibia is about the easiest though. :)

Namibia is very easy compared to most, I just need to learn German.

My PH in Namibia said he needed to learn German also. His family settled in Namibia from South Africa

My brother got pulled out of the line at NY customs on return from Nambia. It seems a restraining order (placed by an ex) that his lawyer said he would "take care of", and never quite got around to it! Took about half an hour to get loose from the gendarmes to get home. It popped up again when he tried to by a gun on line, got refused by NICS and spent thousands getting his ex to rescind the bogus order. Unfortunately domestic violence which he was never arrested for or charged with, can be used against you without any notice or order from anyone. Boom, its just there, deal with it. Needless to say my brother is somewhat disenchanted with the legal? system here.

Yeah thats kinda funny as here you hardly ever hear anyone speak german. I spent over 9 years in Germany in the army and on my first safari I was in camp and Greg had invited a lot of Business Clients to join us for dinner one of which was german from Stuttgart his English was very broken as was my German but after a few beers Greg saw us talking and came over to see if I needed any help understanding. when he walked up I was talking German to the gentleman and Greg was stund Bob he said you speak German No I said I've had a couple of Beers and I talk BS the guy laughed and told Greg I had spent many years in Germany in the Military and for the rest of the night we just set and drank beer and shot the shit. btw I've never had a german lesson other then the 1 week headstart class in germany all my german was taught to me by German friends over beer at the Guest House as to why I speak german after I have a few under the belt.

Contact your closest CA embassy and speak to them, if the charges were dropped you are fine. If it is still on your record you may have a problem. depending on the severity most people can get away with paying restitution to the CA government and gain entry.

This issue has arisen with clients of mine that are visiting Canada. The best is to have a copy of any and all court documents prior to trying to enter Canada. Some attorneys in Canada even offer a service to Americans coming in with "minor" criminal offenses to be expunged. There are all sorts of ways to handle this situation.
