Hi folks
I thought I would share this with those of you who are un aware of the status on the following species...

After a Lengthy conversation with our Limpopo based Nature conservation department, this is what I was told:
Honey badger in Limpopo will not be issued (a hunting permit), and only 1 Brown hyena tag/permit per outfitter will be given per season, this will go for Civet as well

Those of you (non us based) who would like to hunt the latter in Limpopo should make this clear to your outfitter well in advance to avoid dissapointment..

Just thought I would give everyone(All the "critter" hunters out there) a heads up

My best always.

I find this kind of information important.

Good info to have.

An absolute joke !!!! Wonder which guy had nothing to do with his misrable day to figurebtis one out !!!!

I am certain that it is based on vast volumes of extensive field studies. Just like all wildlife management decisions around the world. :banghead:

I find it interesting from the stand point that wildlife conservation is not being used properly. There has to a sustainable population of honey badgers, but they are not issuing permits...so this "sucks"! Give limited permits at least.

I do not know what their current way of thinking or lack of thinking is. I know the argument before was that Honey Badger has a Cites 1 listing or some extreme listing in Botswana and the Honey Badgers can cross the Limpopo and therefore we should have the same listing on them.

It is a pity that the leopards of which Zimbabwe has a hundreds of permits probably all cross from South Africa into Zimbabwe that is why they get all the permits and we dont !!!!!!!

Jaco can you please give me the persons name that told you this. PM if neccesarry. We as Committee of LHLF would like to follow up ...

Richard why I posted I had a conversation with another LHLF INDIVIDUAL this afternoon, I have no problem posting it in public..:)

Kobus Pienaar as well as Gerard De Beer shared this info with my office this morning Uncle Ronnie confirmed... I believe it comes directly from somwhere higher than what they are as you would probably agree... :)

Please keep me posted on this as well.

My best always

As per Ronnie Hayward at today's meeting ..... One ( 1) Brown Hyena, one ( 1) Serval , one ( 1) Civet , one ( 1) Honey Badger , one (1) African Wildcat per Landowner or property ......

This is definitely good news .... I have no problems with limitations on properties . No limitations per Outfitter or exclusions !!!

All above can still be applied for and hunted !!!!

That sounds more reasonable, still they should be set up for size of the property.

Thanks for clarifying this Richard, would be awesome if Kobus and them had relayed this info to my office I guess their channels of communication are not the best.........................??

My best always

Jaco know Gerhard was on leave . I do not know when he will be back probably Tuesday. Wil try and confirm .

That was the reason for Kobus having discussion with myself and my office helper....

Thanks again

My best always

Confirmed with Loffie Malherbe who is in charge in Waterberg in the abscence of Gehard de Beer, who is on leave . One application per property on these animals . No exclusion of Honey Badger . I gave in 2 applications for Badger and one for Brown Hyena this week ... Will reply as soon as they are issued !

I got confirmation both Honey badger and Brown Hyena applications approved . I gave in 2 honey badger applications . I used 2 outfitters , my wife and I for safety sake . I believe the restriction is per property and not per outfitter !!
