Frankfurt Layover - Must do...

Finally heading to Namibia on Saturday morning via Frankfurt. I went a head and got a day room but knowing me, I won't get much rest and would rather stretch my legs on a little sight seeing.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do while in Frankfurt? Restaurant suggestions etc. Thank you.

Enjoy the planning process since it is part of the excursion.

No need to plan ahead for a day-tour excursion in Frankfurt since it leaves room for "changing your mind" once you arrive in Frankfurt. Then you could do "what you feel like doing" and not because you then have an obligation.

At the Frankfurt airport, at the INFORMATION desk, they could guide you where to obtain the tickets for the "HOP ON - HOP OFF" Frankfurt tour. As an alternative, you could select a "Day tour through Frankfurt" with a guide which will point out the "beer" drinking places or restaurants to you. The advantage of making use of those two options mentioned, is since you do not have to arrange for transport, it provides you an opportunity not only to "kill" time, but to be guided by experienced Frankfurt guides, locals who know the places to go to.
Enjoy the lay-over - make the best out of it: even if you decide to take a day room in the Hotel or combine the day room and a little bit of touring!
You live only once - do it maximum!

It's been a long time coming. Thank you for the response. The layover in Frankurt was not only fun it was a great opportunity to shave, shower and take a quick nap before the next flight. Took the short train ride to the city center, stretched the legs walking along the river and had a great schnitzel and beer lunch. Got to Namibia refreshed and even after a 5 hour drive to camp, I had plenty of energy to hunt down my first wart hog and mountain zebra. Even with the new fire arm transport regs for Germany, I can't wait to do it again.

I will be flying from ATL to Frankfurt on Delta and connecting to Air Namibia that evening. I am planning to also get a day room. Can you please explain the new firearms transport regs in Germany. It is my understanding that because Delta and Air Namibia have a baggage agreement and due to the fact I will not be taking possession of my guns in Frankfurt I do not need a German permit.

Has something changed? Where can I access that information?

Have you checked with DELTA about their current arrangements regarding baggage handling?


You might contact the Frankfurt Police with the information in the following thread and report back on the answer you get.
Since I do need a permit, I never asked about NOT requiring one.
