I and a friend are leaving Apr 30 for a 10 day hunt in Limpopo, South Africa. When looking into required immunizations, I noticed on the CDC web site that South Africa requires proof of Yellow Fever Immunization if coming from a YF area of transitioning through such an area. My flight is Dullus to JoBerg with a stop over in Dakar (a YF region). According to my itinerary, we do not de-plane in Dakar. Does anyone know if I need a YF vacination prior to arriving in South Africa?

No you don't. I've done the Dulles/Dakar flight and had no Yellow Fever vaccination on my card. I don't even carry my card anymore as I go ATL direct to Joberg via Delta. I didn't like the stop in Dakar (and I don't like Airbus, but that's a personal thing). I think they still fumigate the plane in Dakar with spray cans but maybe someone else here has recent info on that.

Cliffy go to post 25 in the thread I quoted. It illustrates the RSA law on the subject. :)

Brickburn,
Thanks! Glad you had me go there. As a retired airline pilot with worldwide experience I thought I knew the answer BUT it seems the answer changed in the last couple of years. As I said, I've been using Delta without the stop. Now I have another reason to stay with my present way of doing things. My wife is a retired Medical Technologist says there is always a risk with any vaccination so why take them if you can avoid them?
I stand corrected and will gladly pay off with a beer on me when ever we met and I hope I didn't cause anyone any problems.

I'll collect on that beer one day.
This is one of the reasons that I am going another route than Dakar, although I have been vaccinated now. It's now a precursor for the dream Bongo hunt. :)

Thanks for all the info I've been through Dakar twice 2010 /2012 never got a shot and never ask in Jberg to prove it when I went through my medical provider I was told no shots were needed so my next question is once you've got the shot and your 10 day period is met, how long is the shot good for?

bob i believe 10 years.

Thanks Guys that means its shot time only three months away from Deb and I going on our next once in a life time adventure.
