Beware AH PMs

brick you are one scary dude .
the things you can do with that key board.

Yup!
It's all in the details. Be tenacious and keep digging.

I can not even imagine the good old days....

Hi Brickburn,
Thanks for the great intel. I have also looked in our data base. I have also put out inquiries on other websites. I will ask for referrals both successful and otherwise. In my years of hunting I have seen it all. The elk hunting industry is loaded with ""Bad Actors". I got extremely lucky as my first trip was with Motsomi Safaris and it was just heaven. I am going back in June. I will always go back but I do like to see different lodges as variety is the spice of life. Where ever I go I will post a full review here with lots of information and photos. As i do for Greys I will talk about everything. From comfort of the bed to how clean and warm the pool was. Information is power. We invest so much of ourselves in a big way. It permeates our dreams , hangs upon our hopes and takes away other options that the money used on the safari expends. So brick thanks for the start. I will keep everyone posted on how this evolves. Whom I picked and why. Finally how it all turns out. Should be fun.

Welcome.

Hey Bob ,
A new hunting partner would be great. The old one died so that would be great. He left some stuff like an old range finder and such. Naturally they go with the new partner. His wife is really not part of the deal but she said she is open minded.

thanks-Jerry

Hey zen no sure my wife would fly with that one unless your old partners wife is good at house cleaning I can be pretty messy at time.

True TAP for one I have never been a pm kind of guy any offer I make I do publicly... unless contacted by an interested party directly, just my way of doing things...

Do feel though that such shady pm's from outfitters of "I'll repute" should be made public on this site for all to see as this will help prospective consumers/hunters and prevent them from making a uniformed decision that will hurt them financially for 1.

Once again good post but transparency would root this evil much quicker than posting about it.

My very best always.

Jerome. I will send you a pm with the new guys on here. The one guy was hunting lions in a park and got busted. He went to jail right along with his clients. This was echoed true by many outfitters in reno. I had to quickly ca my friend and cut off all communications with this guy. I ended up helping my friend book a massive hunt and hes set up great now. Funny thing is that the outfitter wondered about my comission. I looked at him confused and then realized this is how africa does business. I simply told him to reduce the hunt by that amount as i dont agree with accepting money for hunts. I enjoy hunting and i never want to mix hunting with personal gain. To me it would ruin it.

Was it enyse apologizing for animal artistry? Well u did lie. They refuse to help on the importation. How dare you get my hopes up. Just kidding. However i did find an import agent and i actually fell in love with the animal artistry work. Im having a small zoo sent there to be mounted. That is if johan calitz exporter can get my leopards and entire safari out of zim. And it looks like shes getting everything moving. We will see.

Thanks for the great site jerome. I still owe you for hooking me up with my 48" sable. Just pass on the word to TOM to quit sending me pm's. dont you know hes a lawyer? Im allergic to lawyers as are the rest of us on here. We need to vote him off! J/k tom. U contribute a great deal. Especially with that sable deal! God i hate u for that one. I just know im gonna end up buying one!

I must be doing something wrong. Never get offers from anybody! Not looking though. When I go again in a couple years it will likely be with the guy I hunted RSA with in '09. Bosbok Safaris, they have some new areas so it wont be like going back to the same place every hunt like some do, same guy but new areas, I like that.;)

Sess, sent you an offer via p.m.

Didn't want you to feel left-out.

Same here never been known for alienating hunters.... :)

My best always.

Hi Tony

Thanks for bringing this up I have also noticed the constant interfering of other Outfitters on my hunts offered posts. I would like to first of all say that I have no problem with competition as long as it is good and honest competition.

This forum is well know for knowledgeable good folks, Outfitters that devote time to the members and one of the things I particularly love about it is 'we don't have to agree but we do respect each-others opinions".

The wonderful thing is that you get the feeling that each member cares about this forum and the other members. This is a place for new to Africa hunters and then very experienced African hunters, its open base has lead to most people getting good and honest feedback from other hunters.

I would like to also applaud Jerome for staying so neutral, I think that Jerome has left the monitoring of this forum up to the members and he only gets involved once there is proof of a true illegal hunt.

Jerome has given the members the right to probe, prod and proof and usually the bad apples get caught out or at least those that post publicly. With regards to the pm's well it is our responsibility to just post it publicly on the forum and ask the other members as to their thought, past experiences or opinions of the particular offer. This would certainly stop this from happening in future.

Zenbear Willem is a top notch guy I have yet to go out for a beer with him but we have spoken numerous times and I can tell you that there are no smoke and mirrors there! What you see is what you get.

Thanks to everyone for making this forum what it is today!

Best Regards
Louis van Bergen

a hunter mmmmmm? well i do know you can drink so i can at least verify your credentials on that subject :beer:

i wonder apart from someone like tap who has asked about hunts with large outlays, and new people on the site as to whether the pm posters check the profiles of people, and dont bother with people who have maybe hunted a lot in africa ,or look like/are involved in the hunting industry as they realise they probably wont pull the wool over their eyes.

and PaulT please send me one as well , but make it sound so good and cheap i cant resist !!;)

This is why there is a directory member's section. You can check out most of the outfitters from AH there, and see what other AH members who hunted with them had to say.

Hi All

As i am fairly new on the site I just want to get some clarity, when a member post in a tread he is looking for a certain hunt. Is it wrong for me to contact him via PM, never made any offers over PM but want to find out more about his needs and requirements. Usually when I have all the info i will send him a package offer that suits his needs.

I am asking this because i did not have any clients from AH that can write reviews about hunting with me. And when i saw this tread, I started wondering what is the right way to do all of this.

Thanks for the great site and all the valued input from the members and outfitters participating on here.

Gerrit,
I don't see anything wrong with it. If a member posts that he is seeking for a hunt, he is opening himself up to offers. I think what Louis is speaking about, and they need to correct me if I'm wrong, is almost a "counter" offer popping up as soon as he has posted a hunt on the forum. I have had this happen here, as well as on another forum, and by the same operator. Sometimes, I post from my phone, so my browsing is limited, so if this has happened, then I apologize. I know that it has happened that I have actually kept an offer back for a couple of days, because a similar offer has just gone up on the forum, and I just did not feel comfortable posting my offer immediately after the offer from one of the other outfitters.

gerrit what you are saying sounds reasonable to me. if people start a thread/post they are looking for a specific hunt, then they must expect to be contacted for the finer details so you can put the best package together for that person that you think is what they are wanting. otherwise maybe ask them if you can pm them , but that starts getting a bit long winded. as they say you can please some of the people some of the time, but you cant please all the people all the time.......

i was typing this as marius posted his so they crossed, but i agree with what he says about louis comments and about outfitters seeming to jump in with counter offers on hunts that are put up in the deals on hunts etc sections, i think maybe those operators should put their hunt/offers on their own thread and not on an existing one.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
