Last weekend was opening weekend of the CO antelope season.

I was lucky enough to fill my doe tag at last light on Saturday afternoon. So, Case and I talked to mom and decided we'd head east to help the guys fill their tags. Case turned 4 years old in August and this would be his first big game hunt.

He had fun driving around looking for antelope for the others. We even chased and caught grasshoppers, threw rocks in a mud hole, looked for snakes in holes, and picked up the odd dung beetle as they scampered across the CO prairie.

Here are a few pictures of our day.

Time to get serious! Waiting for Mr. Ted to complete his stalk on this buck antelope. Here is where we killed time throwing rocks into a mud hole at almost a mile away.

Stalk and a successful shot completed. It was time to find the bullet entrance.

I can't imagine why he asked to go hunting again this weekend. Case said he needed to talk it over with mom this morning.

Cool, good start for the young fella.

Perfect! Great intro to hunting and a chance to lend a hand, well done graybird!!

Good job..

As they say take a boy hunting now and you will not have to hunt for him later...

Great! This is part of the fun of hunting. This is why we do what we do. What most people just don't understand. Great lesson and a great way to show those young men what hunting is about.

It is our future. There are no better memories than time shared in the field with our children. It did my heart well to read this. Thank you.

What hunting dreams are made of.... Well done.

He also got to see a real stalk take place.
Congrats on a successful hunt for everyone.

Thanks everyone! It was a fun day all around.

Speaking of watching the stalk, there were a few times Case crawled in my lap to look through the spotting scope to see what Mr. Ted was doing.

Thanks again!

Very well done. My best hunting memories have been with my boys, watching them and mentoring them, now watching the oldest get ready for his first solo hunt.

Way to go, looks like your introducing him the proper way.

good stuff , the young blokes will treasure these outings until they themselves are doing the same thing as you have now
