Hunting African animals by calling?

Calling works in North America for moose,elk, pronghorn antelope, deer, bear, coyotes and others.
I know African animals are vocal calling to each other so I'm curious......
Does anyone hunt African animals by using game calls?
If so, what species have you hunted by calling?
What kind of techniques and sounds are used?

Only place I heard where they were calling animals in africa is CAR, where they call lions...

Last year I took a foxpro caller to south Africa with spiral horn safaris. Mainly calling for jackal and little cats at night. Very fun.

check the legality of using calls in certain countries especially for species like lion. i know it caused a lot of sh.t in one country when one lot accused another person of using callers to bring lion in.

In S.A. it will mainly be for Jackal and a couple others, in CAR, Camroon, and Mozie and some other the locals call in some of the various Duiker species, by Nasal bleating (if you will).

I learnt a trick while rifle hunting from a Zimbawean guide, on Wildebeest bulls in herds, especially when they are reluctant to show them selves and you only see the cows, it works well to bring them out, it can also get their interest and make the whole herd come closer. (good wind and them not knowing you are there is a must)

As far as calling them in over distance like Elk and some other North American species... Really don't know.

In Zim, it's legal to use an electronic caller (or any other type) on land that is not designated as National Parks Estates. Those being 'Safari areas' or within a National Park.
I used simple tape recordings of Hyena Feeding to call both Lion and Hyena in. They were recorded from TV ...animal planet!!

What kind of sound did you use to call out the bull Wildebeest? Did you imitate a bull or a cow?

I wonder if a person could call in various plains game animals by imitating their sounds?

What about calling Warthogs? Javelina respond very well to calls.

Bulls have a huuhm huuhm I have tried it a couple of times especially when you can see cows and hear a bull in the general area, It has brought them out to investigate on many occassions. Late afternoon and early morning I will imitate the allert call and they will 8 out of 10 times rush in closer to investigate.

I have not tried it on anything else... As I said earlier I don't think it will work over distance but if it is in the immediate vacinity it has brought them into sight on multiple occasions.

The reason I am curious is because I have had much luck calling in North American animals over the years. I am gifted with the ability to imitate an animal sound once I hear it. Some of my friend call me "animal'. I am attempting to learn as much as possible about African animals before we hunt. I have located an on-line sound effects site that has sound tracks on all kinds of animals. All you have to do it type the animal name in the find sound effects box and various sound tracks come up for different animals. I have listened to Wildebeest, Warthogs, Impala, Zebra, Jackal, Baboon and Caracal.

I saw a tv episode one time with the Mojo boys in africa. They killed several jackels and called in a lepoard, though it never presented a shot.
The jackels responded just like coyotes do. Some hard chargers and some slipping down wind.

If the place your going hasnt done it in a few years i think a mouth call would be quite effective.

As in the mountains here, don't forget about unwanted guests to predator calls. (depending on your area)

That is a good point.
If your going to call then you better be vigilant about your surroundings.
But doesn't that add to the appeal of calling.
