Does anyone have information about Federico Gellini Tanzania Safaris? I have heard some good things and would appreciate any information anyone on the site could offer. I am headed to Kilwa with them next September. Thanks and good hunting!

Here is a presentation video of Tanzania Safaris by Federico Gellini on YouTube...

What are you hunting with them?

We will be hunting cape buffalo, greater kudu, roosevelt sable, plains game and possibly leopard.

I would appreciate any information you might offer. Thank you.

With that package you have, The Queens package you can go after all animals on for the country... i would suggest you put out your baits early on in the safari and put as many as you can afford to be successful on Leopard and or Lion.

on the cape buffalo i would suggest you look at 2 possibly 3 if you have the time and Plus save the 3rd one for the "wow CB".

Are you looking at the white bearded wildebeest or Nasai Land-chevron wildebeest.

The sable are great it is just getting a chance to bag a very good one. What about the Roan?

you are looking at greater Kudu...what happens when a lessor Kudu crosses your path. and it could happen.

Are you after a Impala or are you looking at Grants or Thompson gazelles all fine trophies.

Eland some times are very good and be per paired to be temped when you run into that lone monster.

Burchell or plains Zebra are like cat nip for leopards...they just love zebra...

hartebeest...you have the chance to go after the coke or Lichtenstein hartebeest....both great trophies.

James:

This is very helpful advice and it will advance my thinking and planning. I am hoping that my 23 year old son will join me on this safari. He loves to hunt but has less experience than I do. They offer a father-son or husband-wife package that is very attractive. With 21 days, we should have plenty of time for all of the animals you mention. Thanks again, and good hunting.

You bring up some great points James, it also depends how much money the person has saved up for the hunt? I guess my advice is study the animals that are available on license and try to have a plan going into the hunt. Ask the outfitter for availability and quality? What are my main species you are after? Which I think you listed. But what about the other ones that might pop up?

I enzy you and wish you the best of luck hunting.

Hmmm, Nasai Land wildebeest? Is that like a cross between the White bearded from Masailand and the Nyasaland (chevron) (Selous) wildebeest? LOL!

With the 21 day Queen's package all animals on license. However some animals you are allowed to take two and the Cape Buffalo you have 3 on license.

The Selous will be a good place and you will have a lot of fun. Try and learn a few words of Swahili before you go. you will be ahead of the game. Some will speak English however some in camp will not. here is a translator for you to use.

Swahili to English translation

Looking over the area where you will be headed.

Good to great Elephants come from this area. Elephants are smaller than the ones in Botswana however we bumped into them daily. and at close range sometimes. Them buggers are like grey ghost and just pop up. you though they had sneakers on.

The cape Buffalo will be in the 40" range some bigger and some smaller, it will take a good eye to find you a good one in the group. many lone to small groups of bulls will be spotted. the herds will be a little harder to get up on.

The area has the nyasa-land-chevron wildebeest and Lichtenstein hartebeast, plus southern impala.

Area is known for good warthogs, fine leopards and mature Lions.

Area has some nice bush-buck, very nice Eland and Eastern greater Kudu.

Your camp should have Hippo (these monsters are on dry land a lot and you could just bump into them out running around. Your trackers will be watching the road for track and the hippo has 4 toes and the middle 2 sometimes look like one toe, I am not sure about a river system in your concession that could possibly include Crocodiles. You will find hippo in dry river bottoms as long as there is water to drink nearby.

Spotted hyena, Ratel (honey Badger), porcupine, civic cats (great trophy we saw 3). We continually ran into the spotted hyena and they are not scared of you.

Baboon and monkeys are plenteful , bushpig, caracal cats, dik dik, duiker, Reedbuck, Sable, Waterbuck, Zebra,

Bird hunting for geese, partridge and other birds are available. You can take 3 guns to Tanzania and you should consider a shotgun to go after the many birds you will spot. Just see ahead of time if ammo is availabe to purchase over there.

Your concession is just south of the one that i was hunting in.

James:

Thanks again for all your very helpful insights. I am planning to learn some Swahili - last time I learned a little bit but it seemed silly to be totally "out of the loop" on so many conversations among my PH, trackers, game scout and the occasional Masai people we encountered. I'm looking forward to learning more.

Good hunting always . . .

David

I Have Information and More

I am very familiar with Federico Gellini Tanzania Safaris. In fact I purchased a 21 day Full Bag Safari at a previous SCI auction that I must now offer for sale. Due to medical reasons we are not able to go this year and are trying to find a buyer who would like to save $35,500.00 on this hunt. All we are trying to do is recoup our actual investment. We got a very good buy at the auction and need to fill our spot. If you know anyone who would like to go, please let us know. Or, perhaps you could upgrade your safari using our purchase. Who knows.

Please call me at 406-961-5403 or e-mail me at thebuzman@gmail.com

This is totally legitimate and no joke. I will provide you with whatever information or contacts you need to verify authenticity. I am a lifetime member of SCI.

Sincerely Buz Paulson
