I have been a member of the KZN Hunters Association for several years and specifically the Zululand branch.
I joined this organization to learn and also support local conservation efforts.
It is well worth the money spent.

The Association has an annual trophy competition for its members that is held in conjunction with the AGM.
The results were published in the associations magazine NYALA NEWS.

As I could not be present and was not having the taxidermist haul my trophies over to the AGM for me I decided I would enter myself in a comparison contest after the fact.
I did not officially enter and am not claiming any notoriety or taking away from the proper winners!
I wanted to see how a guided "foreigner" could stack up against the best in Natal.

Rowland Ward Scoring System is used.
The KZN 1st Place Winners in the species categories I hunted.:
(Apologies for the lay out. This is better than it all running together).

Buffalo -39 1/4
AM Desai (Junior)

Impala - 24 3/4
RN Diplock

Bushbuck - 17 1/4
R Wichmann

Nyala - 30 7/8
RN Diplock

Blesbuck - 17 1/4
RN Diplock

Common Reedbuck - 15
RN Diplock

Kudu - 56 1/8
RG English

Warthog - 14 5/8
RN Diplock

Gemsbok - 39
GJ van Rensburg

Eland - 39
R Brent

Springbok - 15 3/4
JN Rossouw

My scores for Comparison:

Buffalo -41 1/2
Impala - 24 3/4
Bushbuck - 14 1/2
Nyala - 29 1/2
Blesbuck - 15
Common Reedbuck - 14.5
Kudu - 56 1/2
Warthog - 13 1/2
Gemsbok - 40 1/4
Eland - 32 1/2
Springbok - Biltong

The bolded numbers are trophies that could have made a showing if entered.
Hands down, the KZN members are taking some very nice trophies. Foreign hunters are certainly not taking them all from what I can see.

This is where to find the association. The Nyala News has the competition results for all the trophies.

That was one hell of a hunt! Did you ever post pictures of all the animals you took and stories? I've seen some...but I must be missing a lot. :)

There were three hunts and they were all "hell of a hunts".
Namibia, KZn and the Karoo.

The hunt at Leeukop Safaris was amazing. (for all the hunters along - 4 of us)
Where most of the trophies were taken.

No, I have not posted the stories yet. Still writing. I want to do the critters justice.
Lots of other pictures in my gallery.
