I will be hunting in Namibia in 2012. The animals in my package are kudu, gemsbok, jackal, warthog, duiker, springbok, and red hartebeest. Are there any other animals that are only found in Namibia I should consider taking since I am already there?

They usually have good eland in Namibia...at affordable prices. And a good steenbok is you see one!

But the one of the # 1 animals I like from Namibia is the Hartmann's zebra!

One other person suggested the Hartmann's zebra as well. I think I see a trend starting.

They don't have "the dirty strip" in between the black and white strips. Plus the pattern is different. They living in the mountains. They are beautiful...and truly a underrated trophy.

Here are some pictures of Hartmann's (mountain) Zebra that were hunted in Namibia...

Those are some amazing picutures. Did you have a problem shooting one even though they kind of remind you of a horse?

A horse? Really?

You don't think they look like a horse at all? There is at least some sililarities.

Yes I suppose they do logically but thats about it. They do have some "similarity" as opposed to "siliarities".

sory for the misspelling. Although that is pretty funny. The thread doesn't have spellcheck. And if it does I don't think it works very well.

I would hang a Zebra head on the wall, but, I would not mount a Horse, there's one difference. I think I remember reading that Zebra have Canine teeth for fighting, so there is another difference. Plus they are just beautiful animals, and they come from Africa, no more needs to be said by me.

Hartman zebra for sure. Usually a demanding hunt on really rough ground (called mountain zebra for a reason). Didn't check your profile, but Americans can't import the black-faced impala. The Blue wildebeest is native to Namibia and is a fun hunt. But the most challenging is a free range eland. Walk one down and you will have done something you will long remember.

no problem shooting a hartmans zebra for me. very challenging hunt. dik dik, klipspringer, steenbok, gemsbok. have fun

Not relevant to the thread, but for accuracy Zebra are ungulates, odd-toed to be exact, as are domesticated horses and both are of the same family- Equidae. So your recollection is partially correct, Zebra have canine teeth and a horse does too. See pics bellow, this is in the mouth of one of my horses.

Couldn't agree more.

Continent and having stripes, are the biggest differences.

(Oddly enough Rhinos are ungulates, and the only ones with horns, but they are in a different family.)

Zebras are only 'horses' until you see them in person. My horse crazy girlfreind was dead set against zebra until she saw them now wants a rug badly!

Maybe consider Klipspringer since Namibia is traditional Klipspringer habitat as well.

Hi Jon, Namibia was my first trip to Africa. I was really looking forward to getting a zebra! I couldn't believe the adrenline rush I got hunting one. They are so beautiful. A zebra rug in my house is one of most treasured sights by my wife and anyone that visits. A bank president in the city I live wants me to shoot a giraffe for him....because he wants the rug!

Do not underestimate the hunting of zebra. They are smarter than you think and act nothing like a domesticated horse. They'll leave you in a cloud of dust with nothing but hoof beats thundering away.

Zebra is at the top of my list on my next trip over!

I would have to go along with the group on a zebra.

I have a old battle scared one and we want one with out all the scars and my sister wants one the next time we go...high on every ones want list...

It is great that you start off with your own wish list. What species you add to this list, would be determined by the idea/dream/wish to RETURN to Africa, Namibia.

Once you made up your mind that you want to RETURN, do not harvest all your trophies during the first trip! "Pace" yourself...

Enjoy the planning process...it is a huge part of your safari!
