Tanzania and Ethiopia seem to be the only two options for hunting the Lesser Kudu. Does anyone know of a good, reasonably priced, outfitter?

LK are only available on a 21 and 28 day license. With that said, you will be into the hunt 50-70K before you even set foot into either country by the time your dailys, charters, etc are bought and paid for.. Then come the trophy fees once the hunting beings.
No "reasonably priced" options with these little gems.

They do not call them glamour game for nothing.

I wll second Stotty's advice...their is no cheap or affordable choice. I know a lot of people that would love to add one to their trophy room.

I have heard a lot of people ask if they could game ranch hunt them. I honestly don't think it's possible.

Omo valley in Tanzania is your best bet. Pricey but definitely worth the price.

The Lesser Kudu is found in....

Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Southern Angola, Southeastern D. R. C., Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Best places to go: Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia & Zimbabwe....

Does anyone know of a good, reasonably priced, outfitter?
I would look at Namibia and Botswana...

This is what i would do...at the top of AH look under outfitter and go to Namibia and search through the 237 outfitters and Botswana has 16 and find a few to talk to.

South Africa has lesser Kudu and there are some outfitters and PH on here that could guide you in there direction....

I do remember seeing lesser kudu on some outfitters web page...

JamesGrage,

Lesser kudu do not naturally occur in most of the places you mention and several of those allow NO hunting of anything.

Perhaps some private ranches have a few here and there but at this time the only viable place to hunt Lesser kudu is TZ and Ethiopia and perhaps Uganda. It is strictly an east and northeast animal, not a southern species.

sestoppelman

Then the recently published and purchased books that i have on the book case and the use of the internet is not a viable tool to use in searching for a place to go hunting these days? Gee i would have never known that ...

By taking the time to look in my books and on the internet, and looking up the information i was trying to save jsmcgregor About $50,000
But i guess he must be a wealthy individual and that is small change for him and money is no factor.

Cannot imagine what books you are looking at then. It is as I stated. Perhaps some ranches offer them but they are only native in the north and east of Africa.

Natural Range: Ethiopia , Kenya , Somalia , Sudan , Tanzania , Uganda and Djibouti

Tanzania, 21 day hunt to include lesser kudu: Day rates $79,000 plus trophy fees and many other extras.

Ingozi,

You mentioned Omo Valley. Who is the operator? The only info on Google was in Ethiopia. Thanks in advance.

Here is a couple of location in South Africa....to look at and save $70,000

www.otterskloof.com
you have to email for the trophy fee list

www.wow-safari.com
lesser kudu trophy fee is 1,200

This trip will take you and your wife over and back for less than $10,000...and look at the money you save so you will be able to have a life size mount....

These are option for you to look at, i suggest you do your own internet search and send some e mails to the outfitters...

reading the above post you can see we have member who are able to spend your money like you are a multi-millionaire...when it is clear you are looking for a reasonably priced outfitter...

I don't know about the first outfitter since I haven't emailed for his information but I have a sneaking suspicion that the 2nd outfitters price list is being a little loose with the term "Lesser Kudu". They have prices for "Greater Kudu" (tiered by a size trigger of 55") and then they list "Lesser Kudu - Cape" which to me suggest they are noting that the Kudu in the Cape tend to be smaller than the "Greater Kudu" found in areas of Southern Africa.

I would have to talk to the outfitter but I think he is refering to the fact that the Kudu in the Caper are generally smaller rather than the actual species "Lesser Kudu"

But I could be wrong. It is just odd that they have the word "Cape" after listing the "Lesser Kudu"

Terminator

in less than 15 minutes i was able to find these locations on the internet...there were other i just did not take the time to go look at the sites....

i would have to take Craig Bottingtons recommendations on where to go over other on this forum...he provided information in his books on some on his facebook site...

i am not looking to go after a lessor kudu at this time and have performed very little research on it...

James, The fact is you were wrong big time in your initial post as to viable locations of lesser kudu. As Mike70560 and I both pointed out correctly this is an east african animal. I allowed twice here that there may be some ranch hunts for this animal but they are not in their natural habitat. You mentioned a number of countries that you cannot even hunt in. And its not a matter of wanting to spend someone else's money or assuming everyone is a millionaire, the facts are the facts and you were wrong on this one.

Ses

You should read a Little....

Places to look at and best places to go are two different locations. this all depends on your pocket book...

read the initial post and they are looking for affordable place to go after lesser Kudu...I have not seen where you have added any thing positive to this post on an affordable location to look at going to..

I think south Texas offers many African trophy and i would not be surprised if there are locations in Texas to go looking at...

game farms have moved animals from there home range...and made it a profitable operation...

James, Actually I do read a little... I have not offered to help find a cheaper option because I dont believe there is one being as they are currently hunted in so few places unless one wants to hunt one on a ranch somewhere...like hunting an elephant in Arkansas.

You mentioned Boddington earlier. According to his African Hunter II, Lesser Kudu exist in some 6-7 countries all in the north and east and only can be hunted in 3-4. Thats it. Are you sure we are talking about the same animal James? You seem to think they are readily available in a number of places and they are not... I suppose one should have asked earlier if if mattered whether or not the animal was hunted in a country where it naturally occured.... Probably could have avoided all this silly, conversation.....

Hi JSMCGREGOR,

As you said, lesser Kudu can be hunted under license only in Ethiopia and Tanzania. In any case it is not a cheap hunt but for me Lesser Kudu is the most beautiful antelope of eastern Africa like Bongo in Central Africa. The hunt is just great and exciting, glassing from high point, walk and stalk the korongos, check the salt lick, you can also see them while you driving but it is not really the way to hunt them.
As you may be know I hunt Tanzania with Tanganyika Wildlife Safari (TAWISA), we have 3 millions hectares in Selous game reserve and 2 millions hectares in Massailand ( close to Ngasmet ). In Kitwai area you can hunt Lesser Kudu, eastern greater kudu, grant gazelle, gerenuk, coke hartebeest, fringed eared oryx, patterson eland, dik dik, steinbuck, klipsringer, buffalo ( some), lion and leopard. The success rate for Lesser kudu, grant gazelle and gerenuk is 95 percent.
We have a special offer for January, February, march: 60 000 USD for 15 hunting days plus trophy fee.
If you need the price details please contact by pm.
Cheers
christophe

There's no such thing as an "affordable" lesser kudu, number one, and, number two, there are no lesser kudu on game ranches in RSA or Namibia.

You can buy a 21 day license in Tanzania for $5,000 (round number) and hunt for fewer days if you can find an outfitter willing to let you have a lesser kudu off his quota.

The outfitter in Ethiopia with the best lesser kudu is Nassous Roussos of Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris.

I did not think they were available on game ranches. It is super special hunt! And a grand trophy!

Per the new answers above from those in the know, I would be interested in a reply about this from JamesGrage. His suggestions that we who disagreed with his assessment were somehow ignornant sort of sticks out in a negative way.

While the information from book were from locations that were given here is a reply to the Lesser Kudu from one of my facebook friends...

He has considerable experience hunting in Africa and i indicated that i would pass on his reply to my question...

The 2 options right now that are open Masailand in Tanzania and Ethiopia. There may be a chance in the future in Uganda

Sestoppelman go ahead and flame away....
