Hello to you All,
WOW !!! I've been on a different sort of forum for a while now but this is huge ! I'll keep this short and sweet, don't want to send you all to sleep with my life story.

I have shot for over 30 years and progressed through to full bore rifles in the UK for the last 20, which can be a real pain in the rear end if any of you have had the pleasure of visiting us. We have some of the toughest laws on firearm ownership on the planet.

To cut a long story short, . I am heading to RSA this year (hopefully) to do a PH course, with the aim of working in the industry out there somewhere. Obviously I cannot PH in RSA itself, but somehow (and after a hell of a lot of learning) I will get a foothold and sink my teeth into the game. Live my dream !

I'm positive there is a wealth of information to be learned from you guys, so hit me with it and keep it coming please.

Eyes and Ears Open

Idris

Welcome and best of luck in pursuing your dream!!

Hi Idris, nothing wrong with trying to pursue your dreams! What is your favorite animal in Africa?

Hi Idris,

Great to see another Brit on here, welcome,

Charly

Idris, Welcome.
Where are you planning to study?

Welcome to AH IDRIS!

Welcome to the forum IDRIS!

Good luck in following your dream.

Best Regards

Welcome to AH and good luck.

Thanks for the welcome guys, very much appreciated.

My favorite African animal is the Ratel (Honey Badger). A more determined or fearless creature you will not find on the continent, they can take a hit from a Puff adder and walk away...Mental or what ?

I would like to study with Ian Goss, he has a fearsome rep but if you learn from the best the rest is so much easier. However. I am open to recommendations from all with experience regarding where to go and who's wing to sit under for a while. Thats my way of thinking anyhow ! There is still a lot to do here before I can tie up my UK commitments, with some luck sept-oct is probably realistic to do the course. The last thing I want to do is get there and realise I am not fully prepared for whatever is thrown at me. So much to learn and so little time, if it was easy we'd all be doing it though , right ???

Thanks Again

Idris

Welcome, and I too wish you luck with your dream.

Perhaps already in your book collection, here is the one you should considered reading How to Become A Professional Hunter In Africa.

Thanks for the advice, I have had it for a while. It is Brilliant.

Read it, wore it out, printed another.

I actually e-mailed Steve last week to tell him that he's written a "second Bible" (no offence intended to any of our God fearing congregation), for me it is at least !!! No reply as yet, I know he's on here irregularly, so hopefully soon.

It's been the no nonsense, honest and practical basis for me filling my pants with the brown stuff !!!

SOOOO much to learn and prepare for, but a lot less than not knowing, then finding out too late eh !!!

It's Nice to have the personal touch from you.

Cheers

Idris

Welcome to AH and good luck with your dream! What an adventure!

Hi Idris

Best of luck in your dream, it can be done, im from the england although not in the hunting industry i trained and worked as a field guide in the Kruger national park and caprivi strip in Namibia for 4 years, you will now find me like your self in the UK stalking Roe, Reds, Chinese and muntjac around south east England.

best of luck mate

Good luck with your venture and I don't want to deflate your enthusiasm, but it may be difficult to find a job and/or a work visa. If you need information or advice about game species, habitats, ecology etc. for your course you are welcome to contact me.

The "Honey Badger" as your favorite animal. That is cool, a very unique animal! I wish the best of luck to you chasing the dream!
