SOUTH AFRICA: Blaauwkrantz Safaris The Best Kudu Hunting In The world

4) Perhaps my favorite picture from the trip ... while we were waiting/hoping for the kudu to reappear in shooting range, my daughter took a picture of a cactus framed by the mountains in the background and captured the spot where we first saw the kudu, his path, and ultimately where he was shot!

Pretty neat service for the PH to put those signs out where the Kudu would walk.

Patrick, I think I like your optimism! I'm a bit torn on the taxidermy list though. I feel like I need to bring everyone home, but the checkbook isn't going to love it.

I was thinking euro for everything and one wall pedestal for the kudu ... then I saw the taxidermy in the lodge ... then I shot two kudu. I certainly PLAN to go back, but until I do this is my only trip to Africa so I am mounting all four of my animals (limiting the taxidermy bill was a factor in deciding to do the spiral horn package with only three animals vs the "first-timer's" package with ten animals after reading AH forums dicussing taxidermy costs!).

I just sent directions to Paul Smith with Relive Taxidermy in Port Elizabeth for two kudu wall pedestals, one nyala wall pedestal, and a shoulder mount for the bushbuck. The idea is to put the kudu on the outside and stack the nyala and bushbuck in between. Attached are some pics from Paul's facebook page that I showed my wife as the visualization.

Should get a quote on price in a day or two, but I have a pretty good idea from previous communication with Paul!

My current plan is shoulder mount of each, with a full mount of a meerkat. I've got the approval from the better half to do a Timon and Pumbaa mount. The zebra, if I get it and not some monster like yours, will be a half mount pedestal. Similar to this one.

I totally love you zebra mount idea!!! Damn I will add that to my list!

Thanks to Patrick from Bushwack Safaris for that one. I asked about the difference between flat skin and felted, and he sent me that picture. I'll say he's good at up-selling! Ever since I saw it, it's been lined up on my dream team

GREAT REPORT and Pics, Thanks for taking us on your safari thru this post !

2) I was able to travel half-way around the world and find the one kudu wearing my school colors!! (first African animal!)

I'm planning to take an Aggie shirt to wear in Africa, but not a flag!!!!

Lol

So happy for you and the great hunt you had! We hunted there in 2013, Eric was my buddy's and his family's PH and Eardley was mine and my better half's. Great people! Very professional organization. and just a wonder family.

Backstory on the flag ... Blaauwkrantz posts the photos for all of the animals taken there (which is AWESOME!!!) almost on a daily basis ... so checking the website in the months preceding the hunt was part of the morning routine. A couple of weeks before I left someone posted a photo with a small Clemson flag and then a small LSU flag. I didn't have time to find anything smaller than the one I took, but if you are going to do it ... do it big!

and just a wonder family.

AGREED! They could not have done a single thing to make me feel more welcome or really to improve the hunting experience. Part of me wants to go back because of the hospitality and the hunting (I could go back just hunt kudu and bushbuck for the rest of my life) and part of me wants to see another part of Africa and meet another awesome family.

Nice report sir. I m 136 days from my first safari...But I m not counting!

136 days ... I am jealous, but happy someone gets to go ... I look forward to your report!!!!

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
