Savage Hunter
AH fanatic
My wife, Lana, has hunted for years.
Pretty fair shot when she doesn't get all shook up with buck fever hunting at home.
She has never shot standing up using sticks, though.
We carried our Remington Speedmaster 22 auto and her Savage Ladyhunter 7-08 that she will use in africa.
The 22 bullets were old and didn't look real good, some were pretty bad charges and some duds.
The 7-08 were the bullets she will be hunting with. 140gr Nosler Accubonds.
Our trip is late July and our 30th anniversary. We will hunt with Marius and KMG. (my 2nd with him)
We started at 60 yards with the 22 and she shot 15 shot volleys and put them in about a 4 inch circle on 15 shots. Did this a couple times.
Then put 3 from her 7-08 in about a 2 inch circle. (I fired her rifle twice from 60yds and were basically one hole) It is a sweet rifle.
I then moved her to 100 yards. A couple 15 shot volleys with the 22 were put in about a 5 inch circle.
She then shot a 5 shot volley in a 3-4 in circle with one flyer (5 inches) that I watched her pull the trigger too fast. I reminded her about the proper use of the accutrigger and she settled down.
She shot a final 3 shot volley of about 2 inches at 100 yards. She sheepishly asked "Do you think it's good enough?"
I responded, "It is excellent. Now all we have to do is get Marius to tape a 1 inch square piece of duct tape on each animal you plan to hunt."
She could always shoot pretty well, but has missed a few bucks when she gets too excited. Does are usually bangflops for her. She finally settled down her buck fever and has killed the last 3 bucks she shot at..
She's hoping for 4 animals. Desperate for impala. Then it's what Marius can find, her "hope for" list include common springbuck, black springbuck, Common Reedbuck.
And, she will likely be the shooter if a Caracal is treed when we hunt with dogs.
I plan to take her back at least 2 more times and shoot a few hundred 22s and a couple boxes of 7-08.
