Hi Guys,

I am considering a Trijicon RMR on my double. my question is which size dot do you go for?
3.25 MOA or the 6.5 MOA?

anyone have experience with these?

?

Am I alone??

Nobody use this before?:p

I am going to put one on my new double but have not got one yet. I was thinking the 3 MOA for me just to give me a better option for longer shoots and smaller critters. But I have not looked into them much yet to see what is the best setup for a double. I'm putting it on a 470 nitro if that helps with a QD mount when my gun if finished. My currant double I just use irons. Wish I could help you may give Chris at heym a call.

I haven't used on a double rifle, but have used plenty of reddots on my zombie killing rifles. Hehehe...

My opinion is this. It all depends on your eyes and how well you can pick them up, for me color is also a concern as I'm color blind and have found that I can see the "green dot" better than the "red dot."

If you have good eyes, go with the 3.25 MOA for the reasons Uni mentioned. If you don't, or have no plans of shooting your double at anything past 50 yards then 6.5 MOA shouldn't be an issue. 6.25 MOA only covers 3.25 at 50 yards, IMO that is fine enough for that range and weapon.

I really like reddots and wouldn't hesitate to use one on a double. Check out the video I put up on my SAAM training report in the Hunting Africa section. That Kriegoff I was shooting had a docter (sp?) rd on it and it shot great. I was really pleased, especially considering I had never shot that rifle before. As Brick said on the thread, both shots would have resulted in a dead buffalo.

I use the 2 MOA aimpoint on my .416 S2 and it seems about perfect. It is very quick close, very bright, and still very accurate out to 100 yards. I am shooting a rifle - not a shotgun, and four and above looks really big to me.

Hi Guys,

great to get feedback that confirms my thoughts. 3.25MOA it is then.

it will be going on a .470NE, so should be spot on. my eyes are ok (not great though), but think this may be better at a little longer range than me trying iron sights with my eyes

Glade to hear you will have to keep me updated on how it does as I will be doing the same. Are you going with the dual illumination model auto brightness or single I would like to know

I will let you know as soon as I have ordered AGAIN.............the US wont let me order and ship outside of the USA!

I can buy it all in Zambia or RSA, but the yanks seem to think it would be problematic to buy a scope/sight in the US and send it to Zambia...............bloody crazy.........

now gotta get a mate to order and ship privately!

Jumbo,
I had the same issue trying to get a scope in USA, I'm not sure if DHL or Mercury Couriers will bring the items out of the states either.
I eventually bought the scope in SA whilst on holiday.
Maybe look there for something, it may be a whole bunch easier.
Did you check with Faizel at Mulimo Firearms in Lusaka? I'm sure either Faizel or the guys as Sporting Guns could order something for you.
Good luck!!!

Hi PeteG

Thanks, Richard at sporting guns can help, but it's just so much cheaper in the states it's silly!

Luckily got a mate who owes me some cash in the states, so think that's my plan!

Are you in Lusaka Pete? Any idea if Jonh du Plooy is around at the moment? I'm trying to arrange a buff with him later this year?

Jumbo,
It is crazy how expensive this stuff is here.
If someone can arrange it for you, then that's a much better option!
I'm in Ndola, John should be around, buddy of mine tried to contact him just after the SCI show and he mentioned that he had just got back from there so I would assume he is around.
I can send you his email address or phone number if you need it.

just had a quick look to see how much they are in uk compared to usa and as i thought a big difference. only looked at one set of prices and usa approx $550 and uk ï½£470 pounds, so converting approx $720 .whats richard quoting?

My governemt is very concerned about terrorists buying items like this out of the country. I think they want the terrorists to buy here so that they can get the tax dollars.... It is stupid

Brought to you by the same type of folks who want to limit the maize of sugary drinks legally, so that people will have to at least buy twotwo of them.to get fat!

Royal27, that's brilliant!

I have got Johnny's number and will try him again next week when I am in Lusaka.

PeteG, I am in Kitwe, would be good to touch sides sometime. Let me know if you get out this way ever?

Good one Royal!!
Jumbo, I will drop you a pm with my phone number.

Oh, it gets even better!!! Barnes Banded Solids are also temporarily banned here, although I got lucky and found some not to long ago. The government is concerned that they are armor piercing. I wonder what bullet out of a .375 or better ISN'T body armor piercing????

Now Jumbo, I'm beginning to get concerned as I think about it... .470 Nitro Express double rifle, with a Trijicon dot site.... Are you a terrorist set on taking down my country, two shots at a time? ;)

Royal27, seems my secrets out.......I'm gonna have to find a cave to hide in now!
:cool::eek:

Jumbo, i'd appreciate to hear back of your assessment on this sight. I too am considering various reflex/halo sights, both for various bolt-guns and my double as my eyesight shows signs of deteriorating. Do you have a plan for mounting it on your double ? Do you have any issues regarding the raising of the sight picture ? Thank-you in advance, Paul.

Hi guys, so I have now got it ordered.
It's the adjustable 3.25 MOA RMR. Not dual illumination as that only comes in bigger dot size.
As for mounting I have ordered the mount (RM58) for custom rifles with ribs 14mm to 16mm. The Krieghoff has just over 14mm rib, so hoping this will be a simple drop on.
I will keep you posted once complete.

As an aside, I was looking for a Leupold VX3 1.5-5 in german #4 illuminated, but everyone was out of stock........eventually gave up after a couple of suppliers processed a transaction only to reverse it and tell me there was no stock. I go to JHB for the weekend only to get an email saying my order is in transit......what order........anyway, following day guess what arrives at my in laws for me........lol

Now I need to figure out if the reversal did actually go through or not?!?!
Anyway, got an option for my 9.3x74R barrels now as well!
