Scope for .375

I started out with the Leupold 1.5-5x on my 375 Weatherby, liked it a lot moved it over to my 500 Jeffery where it's handled 400 plus full power rounds. I have a Leupold 2-7x FireDot on our 7 1/2 lb 375 Weatherby now, it's real nice but I like the 1.5 - 5x better. At 5x you should be good to at least 400 yards with a 375 H&H if the rifle, ammo and shooter do their part. 1.5x it works fine at 8 feet. I use Talley QRs on both and haven't had any issues with them getting loose or being spot on for point of impact after taking them off and putting them back on.

This Redfield is one of my favorite and the reason I call it old reliable, And besides the price was right. I've had this scope now going on 14 or more years, I was over to a friends house one day and he was re-scopeing his 338 and I ask him what was wrong with the scope he had on it? He said nothing I just don't like the way it sounds when I adjust the windage and elevation to smooth. After putting on his new scope he picked it up and handed it to me and said here you can have it. I've now had this scope on everything from a 30/30 to a 300WM and now a 375 H&H but now I'm going to have to get a replacement for the FN 270 it came off of.

Thanks everyone had my head swiming trying to figure out what scope to use so I ordered 2 sets of warne QD ring and That way I can zero it for longer range shooting and DG shooting with 2 different scopes. Just as a note though Deb figured it out this weekend well kinda sorta.

Deb: there was a UPS truck blocking the driveway today, when we got to the house there was a package on the porch from MidwayUSA. did you order something?

Me: Yes some bullets and a Lyman pilot for a 375 for my case trimmer.
Deb: are they Bullets or Ammo?

Me: Ammo can't find them around here not to many people use them for hunting bunnies.

Deb: I didn't think you owed a 375.

Me: It belongs to bluey, he wants me to work him up some loads. :nailbiter:

Deb: :reyes: Yeah right! How much?

Me: half price at auction, never been fired. :bulb: Sence the ammo came in you can be the first to try it. :praying:

Deb: Nope you can get your own black eye.

Oh its doing great, only shooting factory ammo right now to build up my brass supply. Even deb loves it got the bigest kick out of shooting a hole plum through a 12 inch pine tree with a 300gr FMJ. And Rusty my friend in RSA said it was a nice rifle that I finally had a rifle big enough to hunt Duiker:laughing:

Hi.
...a little late, but...
...my favorite #1-March tac.1-10xSFP,March tac.1-8xFFP and
March tac.3-24xFFP.

Well as some of you know I have just recently bought a Remington 700 in a .375 H&H. I've already made up my mind to use Warne bases and rings. What I would like is some recommendations on blue collar priced scopes for it as I have never owned a .375 before and have no idea what scopes work best with the kick of a 375 H&H. Thanks Bob

Well I got to get out and play with the new play toy this weekend Bore sighted it on the work table then took it out back and set up a target at 50 yards. the first shot bottom right had me on paper adjusted a little and tried 2 more to see where I was at, the 2 shots bottom left. Adjusted it one more time the three shots in the bullseye.
First.jpg

Gave the old shoulder a little break and then put 5 more rounds in to the target.

Now I'm sure I will be able to tighten this group up once I work up my own loads but I didn't think that was bad for the first ammo out of a new rifle with factory loads and shooting off sticks.

I'm with you 100% I only use them for the range, they have good brass for reloading and boxes to put the reloaded ammo back in for going on safari as to many questions if not in a factory box.:thumb:

AND, the PRVI boxes are shorter than most boxes, so I can put more in my locked ammo box - go figure???

My latest & probably my last 375 is a Weatherby Euromark 375 Weatherby Magnum. I have a Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x42 in Warne quick detatch lever rings.
I am very happy with this combo. The Zeiss Conquest HD5 is a great replacement & a step up from the excellent standard Conquest that it replaces.
I would be more than happy to have this scope on any of my rifles.

I have this very scope being mounted on my CZ500 right now - can't wait to shoot it!

I know this is an old thread, but I have had really good luck with the Leupold VX-III 2.5-8x32, several hundred rounds through my light weight 300 Win Mag, and put a newer VX-3 same power on my 375 Ruger, and it has withstood around 250 rounds in the last 8 months, mostly 300gr at 2550.

Thats Fine a late post is better then no post. The fact is I had my Redfield on it but I'm already looking for a different scope cause I found out that that scope will not work for late night hunting for Mr Spots. I used it for hunting deer here in AL this year and when I got a shot it was late last light. Deb and I found lots of blood, hair and even lung but no deer so I'm going with a more light gathering scope. After looking for two days I came up with this conclusion either the 270gr bullet blew it up or Big Foot got it. Your guess is as good as mine.

Hello,
At what distance did you shoot ?
x32 is mini ..

For a scope with a 36mm objective, I am happy with the light gathering ability of my Leupold scopes, although I find the Nikons to be good as well. What I want are quick detachable rings that work like they are supposed to. If I ever have to wade into the thick stuff after something that may kill me, I don't want a scope, just my express sights.

I've had a Leupold 1.5-5x on my 500 Jeffery using Talley QR rings. It's worked great with over 400 full power rounds, about 100 of those through a lead sled. No issues at all. I've had the scope off about 5 times, it comes back to within 1/4" at 100 yards just like it's supposed to. There may well be and probably are better scopes and rings, but I have zero complaints. I put a 2x7 Leupold on our Rem XCR II 375 Weatherby, it's fine but I like the 1.5-5x better.

Best Regards,

Chuck

.500 Jeffery! I would say that is a pretty good testimony to the durability of a Leupold scope. I'm sure there are multiple scopes that are up to this task, but happy to know mine are likely to hold up.

I think the Leupold VX6 with its 6X power range are perfect for wringing everything out of a 375 it has, plus they're about 1/3 the price of a European if you shop around.

I put a 2-12 x 42 Firedot on a Model 70 for the last safari and it was outstanding. PH loved it too. Gathers a ton of light with that 42mm objective, especially at the lower powers. Perfect for leopard at night.

I really like the fact that the illuminated Firedot automatically turns off after a few minutes, and then turns back on soon as you move the rifle. Other illuminated scopes I've had seem to always have a dead battery when I needed it. The dot shows up really well on the black hide of a cape buffalo too!

+1 Love the Firedot system. You just have to make sure it is completely shut off before you travel or the motion detector will keep it on the entire trip. Thankfully this hasn't happened to me but I have heard a story......finding batteries in the bush in Tanzania.....
