Thinking of Moving up to a 375

Rob,
I own two CZ rifles. One in .375H&H and the other in .416Rigby. I can't see you going wrong with the CZ. Their value for money is excellent and they are accurate with a solid action. The .416Rigby needed some polishing to help with the feeding, and probably can do with some more, as does the .375H&H. When I say, "to help with the feeding", I speak in high pressure situations, not just regular feeding. Out the box they will do what you ask of them.
The .375 is scoped, and also the rifle that my hunters use on dangerous game hunts with the .416 being open sights.
The .375 is probably also the most accurate rifle in my safe, shooting a 3-leaf clover at 100m.
I would not hesitate to recommend their rifles to you. Once a little bit of work has gone into them, its a great working rifle that won't let you down.

Take Care,
Marius Goosen

In my opinion are Ruger and Winchester the best out of the box.
CZ can be great, but usually need some gunsmithing.

I have a Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger and out of the box it shoots great, has a great trigger and feeds very well.

Plains Game, I know a 375 is over kill but I plan on using 235 Loads,'My budget is at that CZ550 price point ,,I had planned to trade one of my other rifles but as you guys know it,s tough to part with them,
Maybe the real reason is I,m feeling left out,,,you elitist in your 375 and up club have made me feel a bit inferior It,s not that I don,t like the 375 and down Guys it,s needing to Belong,,by the way do i need to post pics with me holding my newly purchased 375 along with the bill of sale before,i get my membership card an learn the secret handshake;)

I don't think the .375 is "overkill" at all, especially on the likes of wildebeest to eland. Plus you get really familiar with it on the plains hunts and in so doing become confident with your rifle when ready to move up to buffalo or lion.

My first plains safari I stuffed it with a 260 Nos Part hand load and it did very well to 300 yards. The last game I shot with it was a steinbuck at a bit under 100. These days I shoot only Barnes 300 gr factory and the results are outstanding. Literally the most flexible African hunting rifle of all time.

OMG Grab it! That's the world-famous Mauser commercial action. I used to have one. Regret the day I ever was so dumb to have sold it. How much?

Rob,

I have an Interarms Mark X in 270. It is a good rifle although I don't shoot it much these days. If you are looking at price you might want to look at the following.

The following 375H&H are found on Guns International at a reasonable price today:

Interarms Whitworth - $699

Remington 700 - $825

Winchester M70 - $870

Interarms Mark X - $899

Interarms Whitworth - $925

Hopefully this can give you some ideas of 375 H&H if you are shopping on price. All the best on your decision.

Rob, I bought one in 1984, still have it. Its always been very accurate and dead reliable. It did need smoothing up which I accomplished by using it. It has 3 safaris under its belt. A great rifle. And the .375 also shoots 350gr bullets for those who like heavy for caliber slugs.

I own 4 Sporters based On Mauser actions dating back to my 6.5 Swede (1901) the rest are a mix of Austrian Yugo and Mex,,Some long actions some short,,I always liked the solid feel and heft of these old guys thats why The Interarms built on Magnum length Action would appeal to me. The dealer isn,t giving me a warm Fuzzy with the money he,s offered for my 7MM in trade on the CZ. I,ve got a line on a private party Interarms 375 for under 700.00 no trade. I can use the extra to buy some nice optics. I still have some time to look but Santa is coming soon

Hello :
I own a CZ 550 synthetic cal 9.3x62 Mauser : opinion : it's OK .. nothing to say ... a tool!
And I own 2 Winch 70 Safari Express cal .375 H&H and .416 RM.
That's not the same category of rifle !!! I have been surprised by the real quality of these new Winch !!!
My .416 Rm is 6 years old and the .375 H&H is one & half year old. Sincerely the finish is truly beyond what the price might suggest !!! ;)
I have shot about 7x20 cartridges (.375 H&H) / 18 months (20 by 2 months : training) : surprised by the accuracy of the Winch and without scope the rifle fall in line naturaly. :victory: The open sight are easy to regulate :victory: .I have mounted Leupold VX2 3-9x40 : Zero @ 180yds 300g perfect :victory:
.. if I miss ... it's I made a mistake ...

Winch is back ! it's good for us !

It,s a real dilemma, I can,t get settled on anything,,,Not that nuts about a CZ,,Got Damn close to a Whitworth (my Fav),,Ruger and Savage have there merits,,The Browning felt the most solid,,I can,t get settled on a Remm or a Winchester,,I hear as many negs as I do positives,,,A Howa barreled action is about 400.00 plus the stock,,not much of a deal but I enjoy doing some work and the finished product is one of a Kind I,m not sure if thats good or bad,,I suppose I can wait til spring it,s a little cold to do any range time here in minnesota

Anticipation is half the fun. I will say this about Browning, they fit me usually, cycle smooth and accuracy has been excellent for me.

Sounds like somebody needs to spend a Saturday afternoon at the gun department fondling several different rifles!

BTW, who says you only need ONE new rifle?!?

Note, if you are planning on buying a receiver and stock separately, or restocking any new rifle, shop for stocks before you buy the gun. We get calls everyday from guys wanting a particular stock for their new rifle that's simply not available for that rifle.

There's not a whole heck of a lot of aftermarket stock choices on Rugers, Brownings and Savages, a few on Winchester 70's and Howa 1500's (Howa is interchangeable with the Weatherby Vanguard) but a literal plethora on the Rem 700. Same goes for triggers, scope mounts, etc.. Remington 700 is by far the best choice for the guy that wants a lot of aftermarket upgrades to choose from.

Arnzen Arms in my area has the Big 4,,CZ Browning,Remm and Winchester plus I was able to handle a Whitworth that is actually listed on Gunbroker.i like Savage but I,m not nuts about SS Barrels and Plastic stocks, to much of an old schooler i guess,,,something will jump up sooner or later I guess

I thought you would already be shooting that Whitworth by now. What gives man?!?

He's in gun "candy" store stage, where he's pondering the endless options..gun porn.

Rob,

I bought a CZ550 in 375 back March 2011 and shot a Cape Buffalo in September using Federal 300 grn soft at 75 yds. Perfect heart shot - it went 75 yrds and dropped. I never did anything to it but put on a Leupold 1-4x20 shotgun scope.

I just bought a CZ550 in 404 Jeffery. Put a Zeiss scope on it. First time to the range shot a 5 shot ragged hole group at 50 yds using Hornady 400 grn DGS.

I would go with the CZ for any large caliber rifle.

problem is the guy thinks the barrel is solid gold,he,s had it listed on gunbroker for a Month and hasn,t lowered the price,,I went into the store that has it on consignment,(thats most likely the problem) he,s got to pay a selling fee,,,I offered him 900.00 Cash in 100.00 bills,, that a good and fair offer in my opinion ,it,s a nice rifle but not perfect,,The store called me last week and said he would take 950.00,,I passed ,I can be Pig Headed at times, I suppose if i called and offered 925.00 he might take it ..When i Hold that rifle and work the action it feels just like my 06 Obendorf,,God this is fun:sad:

I went and looked at that gun on GB. Its tough for me as I got mine new for about half of that but I still think thats a bit high as well. It says he does have the sights so thats a plus. Most morons take the sights off and throw them away! Makes me knuckin' futz when people do that. The scope isnt worth much. There are a few others there on GB as well. But for the same money as that you could buy a brand new CZ.

Rob44,

You might want to consider the Ruger Hawkeye African that HoneyBadger has for sale. At $600, you're not going to get a better deal. I know you said you don't like stainless and you may not like the tacky feel of the grip, but it will help to reduce recoil. You'll have a .375 that you can start shooting now and if you decide later you don't like the stock, save your money for another. I've always liked the looks of the stainless rifles sitting in a laminate stock.

I know Jacques Spamer really likes his version in .416 Ruger. He had some feeding issues early on with it, but he's carrying it during his lion hunts so I guess he got it figured out.

Just another idea to muddy the waters....:)
