Rock Dassie or Hyrax - challenging little critter in these "arrow-killing"-rocks.
His close relative is the elephant (no joke)

Africa a different way - a Rusa Deer Stag on the paradise island of Mauritius.
A challenging walk and stalk hunt - and a very nice location for a great vacation too.

bush pig
Sitting on top of a 10' pallet rack for two nights on a bluff overlooking Africa's night= cold
Hearing the carnival in Pietermaritzburg S.A. start up at dark and shut down at 3am= check mark on bucket list
Shooting my muzzle loader in the moon light at a bush pig 30ft away= priceless

Cold Mule Deer
Although a little more story than photo description. You'll get the point.
I had waited three years to get the chance to hunt with her, as schooling had somehow gotten in the way. With the draw successful, graduation now passed, her new work schedule would leave us with only 3 days for the trophy Mule Deer.
She was determined to beat her last trophy, so a lot of bucks just walked away. Winter arrived with a vengeance, blowing snow creating drifts that were feet deep and wind chills in the minus 40’s.
In the last afternoon we started the walk along the edge of the coulees and almost immediately a good 4 point buck was spotted bedded down with his harem across a coulee within 100 yards of the top rim. Any lower and the hauling required would make the trophy qualifications much too high.
I ranged the buck at 398 yards. She lay down extended the bipod and got set. The does roused and started milling about and then slowly started to meander off. The buck began to follow and stopped broadside. I said “If you are comfortable you should take him. Squeeze the trigger slowly and hold a few inches high.”
To create some anxiety we watched four bucks leave through the head of the coulee basin as we made our way around the rim.
After a short search we dragged her trophy up over the rim through the drifts and gullies and got this picture.
It was a great shot and an excellent trophy providing adventure from start to finish.

MY Son's Oryx
This was a Once in A Lifetime Draw hunt for Oryx in New Mexico. Me and my son Nicholas had put in on the same entry. It was a two day hunt and was very stressful knowing we had two "Once in a Lifetime" tags to feel. He made a miraculous shot and I was and am a very proud father. It truly was a once in a lifetime hunt for us.

Chasing for whitetail in SC -> no deer but all of sudden this nice predator came by because of some gobbling turkey close to my treestand.
I was very surprised and also very happy to make a good shot at him because he was always on the move.
Small game is also very challenging for me and sometimes more difficult to make a good shot.
Stalked the racoon and could shoot it at 20 yards out of a tree.
Squirrels never gave me a shot opportunity while standing in the tree stand.
They always kept an approx. distance of 50 yards except one that came closer
on a sunny Saturday afternoon last October.

Two days of stalking and waiting in a tree.
Then this nice bull gave me an opportunity when he and the other guys in his group came to a waterhole in the late afternoon. Amazing animals and a fantastic hunting experience.

Thanks to all who have entered this contest, a lot of great trophy photos and an incredible amount of entries! Thanks again to Jacques from HartzView Hunting Safaris for his generosity. We'll be selecting the nine pictures and posting it within the next few days. With so many great photos this is as always going to be difficult...
The finalists will be selected by a panel of three judges, all members of AH including myself. Each judge will choose their top three pictures which will be finalists. The nine pictures selected as finalists will then be posted on March 18th, 2011 in this thread and members of AH will then be allowed to place one vote for their favorite picture from amongst the finalists (judges cannot vote). Voting by AH members will take place from March 18th until March 28th, 2011 (at noon Pacific Standard Time). The finalist with the most votes will be the winner. In the case of a tie the winner will be selected by the panel of three judges from the pictures that have tied. The winner will be announced on March 29th, 2011 in this thread.

There were many great pictures to choose from which made judging this contest challenging, as usual! The nine finalists pictures were selected by three judges, myself, Jacques Spamer and enysse whom I would like to thank. There are three trophy photos from each judge represented, which are posted below in no particular order.
AH members may now place one vote for their favorite picture from amongst the finalists (judges and finalists cannot vote). To place your vote, reply in this thread by including the name of the picture in your post. Voting will take place from March 18th until March 28th, 2011 (at noon Pacific Standard Time).
The finalist with the most votes when the contest closes will be the winner. In the case of a tie the winner will be selected by the panel of three judges from the pictures that have tied. The winner will be announced on March 29th, 2011 in this thread.
Thank you again to everyone for all of the amazing entries and good luck to the finalists!
