This is my husband Greg. He shot this buck when he was very ill with (recently diagnosed) diabetes, AND he was ill with (yet to be diagnosed) cancer! He has never missed a hunting season even through Chemotherapy, and Radiation...he said he was not going to allow his illnesses to stop him from doing the thing he loves best. He has been hunting since he was a boy, and has shown me the joys of hunting as well. It is his DREAM to go on a Safari, and I would LOVE to win this for him!

My father, uncle,& cousin have been going to northern ontario canada for severall years together on a bear hunt & fishing trip. I was at long last invited to go with them in 06.It was my first time ever to go on a black bear hunt& needless to say i was very excited.I fished for northern pike & huge smally's from 6:00 am. till 3:00 pm. then it was time for the bear hunt to begin. My first day i did not know what to expect. It was awesome (people really overuse this term,it should be set aside for some situation that makes the little hair's on the back of you're neck to stand straight up.)THERE i was out in the middle of god's country mile's from anything & here he come. Out of nowhere a huge black bear was standing 25 ft. infront of me. I was in a tree stand with my REM. MOD. 700 30-06 leaning on the tree in front of me. I went to take hold of it & the bear bolted.. GONE . I was sick. COULD NOT SLEEP THAT NIGHT. Next evening back in the same tree with my gun across my knees & i got stiff after 3-4 hrs. of sitting so i stood up & herd brush CRACKING right below me. When i looked down there he went running through a pine thickett. IHAD ONE CHANCE, there was a opening in the brush about 25-35 yrds.out tomy forward right. I was going to take the shot when he ran through the hole, if he ran through the hole. HE WAS THAT BIG or at least his outline looked to be from my standpoint. When he got to the opening he stopped, & looked back at me (honest to goodness) I put the CROSS-HAIRS right on the pump station & let it go. He hunched down & took off. Iwaited 30min. & started out. The guide told us not to do that, but i have been tracking whitetails since i was7. After looking for awhile i gave up(the bush up there is unreal thick) waited for my guide to get there. HE COULD'NT FIND IT EITHER AHHH!! The next day me my cousin mike & my guide came back & there he was not 35 yrds. from my tree. YEEHA 300lb. spring bear.(can you amagain how big he would be in the fall?) MY FIRST BLACK BEAR EVER!!

Ready to go back!
Last Sept., I went on my first hunting to RSA with Johan van Zyl of Gnu Safaris near the Sandveld Game Reserve and Russ Field of Russ Field Safaris. All of my critters were taken with a handgun except for the kudu.
The greater kudu finally obtained on day 5 of the hunt.
