Collector’s copy of Tom Brakefield’s “The Africa Book”

By Tom Brakefield with text and photographs by Brakefield, art and foreword by Bob Kuhn, the 14th in the Amwell Press African Heritage Collection published in 1984 for the National Sporting Fraternity. 210-page deluxe limited edition of 975 copies spectacularly illustrated throughout with Brakefield’s photos and Kuhn’s drawings. Oblong quarto in a white linen box with a leather cutout of the African continent. Elegant, gilt-edged pages, ribbon marker. This copy is unique in that Brakefield numbered it “BQ1” when he presented it to me a few months after I became SCI’s publications director. The book itself is as new, The box is soiled and its bottom linen is wrinkled and has mold spots. Lesser copies of these books are priced from $219 to $275 on Amazon.com and other sites.
