Bullet 9,3x62

Hello everybody
What kind of bullet would you recomend for a 9,3x62 to hunt: Eland, Zebra and Blue Wildebeest? if possible, brand and grains.

I used the 250 Nosler Accubond in Namibia in '07 and had no complaints. Plan on using the 250 Barnes Triple Shok in Zim this summer, have heard great things about it. My load drives both bullets to just over 2500 fps for over 3400 ft/lbs of energy which is plenty for eland on down with proper bullet placement.

I think that Federal charges both of them, Barnes Triple Shock and Swift A-Frame in 286 grns, Is correct?

Not certain what Fed loads but Barnes does make the triple shok in both 250 and 286 grains.

I would defiantly go for the Barnes you simply cannot go wrong!

I am not an expert in ballistics and I have a question. Barnes Triple Shock X is a bullet´s brand /type, same as nosler or Swift A-Frame or Trophy bonded or..., isn´t it? And, for example, Federal is a cartridge´s brand which loads these diferent types of bullets. Is this correct?

As for the first part of our question Swift A frame bullets and Trophy bonded bullets both contain lead cores where the Barnes X triple shock is made out of solid copper there is a difference in each bullets characteristic so please use these links they might answer your question?

Yes Federal factory loads all of the above mentioned types of bullets.

Two more Swift A Frames (on the right) with some woodleigh Soft and FMJ Bullets.

The swifts work great and are a bit harder than the Woodleigh Round Nose bullets.

+1 For the game you are after. I like Barnes as well but use the bullet that groups the best It seems that sometimes bullets with lead core work better in most rifles and in some the solid expanding bullets.

I've used the Barnes TSX in a .300 and a 7mm and was very pleased with the performance on plains game. I'm now loading TSX for my .416 and they have grouped well off of the bench.

The site is in Swedish, but there are lots of pictures and tables and should not be hard to understand. "Intrangning" means penetration. Norma Oryx 232 grs, Barnes TSX 250 grs and Swift A-frame 250 grs seems like good choices.

I used a 286 barnes TSX bullet wizzed thru everything that I shot! Shot this Tessebee frontal chest, exited right out by his hip!



The 9.3x62 is an excellet round for doing just damn near all hunting!!!!

I have used a number of bullet in my 9.3x62 over the years. I like the 320 gr. Woodleighs, 300 gr. Swifts in 26 inch barrel guns that can get a bit more velocity in my long throateed guns at about 2450 or a tad more. My favorite shoot anything bullet is the North Fork Cup Point. It expands a bit and penetrates like a solid. Great buffalo bullet.

For your purpose the 286 gr. Nosler is a winner for sure and I have shot Eland, and most plainsgame with it and a couple of buffalo, but prefer the heavier bullets for buffalo.

Finally I have found Barnes TSX in Spain for my 9,3x62. The cartridge is SAKO Powerhead and the bullet is Barnes TSX I have two boxes in 250 grs that will try this week end. No options for 286 grs, neather Swift A Frame nor Barnes TSX antil september when Norma will comercialize Swift A Frame 286 grs. I mean here in Spain

I have shot Warthog, Kudu(s) and an Eland with my 9.3.

Those animals are what the 9.3x62 was designed to take. Any 286 conventional projectile or premium 250 will work just fine.

Use whatever is most accurate in your rifle.

Some rifles dont group well with monolithics because the bullet may be too long for the rate of twist.
Bonded lead-core is a safe bet. Those Sako cartridges should work a treat.

The 9.3x62 is very easy on bullets thus its fine killing reputation as most all bullets work well in it. I like the Woodleighs, Swift, Nosler North forks, and My latest bullet of choice is the wonderful 230 gr. GS Customs HP monolithic..It penetrates like the dickens and expands well and has the velocity at 2700 FPS to flatten out the trajectory of the 9.3...I am impressed with it.
