New Double Rifle
I was in the process of aquiring all the componants to build a .577 double when an unfortunate chain of events happened. All the items that I purchased haven't showed up. Until I get the items, or should I say if I get the items, I am out a bit of money. In the mean time a friend offered me a nice Kodiak double in 8 x 57. It will be the perfect little brother to my Kodiak 45-70. If the 8 x 57 version is anything like the 45-70, I will be thrilled with it. I am hoping to take possession of this in a few weeks.

If you ordered the 577 stuff from Ohio like I did, I'm getting concerned also.
If you want the missing middle brother to that family I have the 9.3X74R one. Then you can have a full set!

Hi Mike,
Yes, our pal from Ohio. We sure didn't do our homework on that did we? Birdhunter50 is in on it too. He is also concerned. He has a lot of $$ involved. Love to have the complete set. Maybe later when I get my finances set. That would be an awesome set.
PM me you phone number. I would love to talk to you about the situation

I took possession of my new double and I must admit that it is a real beauty. I guess the next step is a trip (online) to Jeff's Outfitters to get a nice leather and canvas case...or maybe all leather.
All the ammo and components are being shipped now.

I had the exact same gun. Loved mine, it was well made, looked great, and really shot great as well.
Enjoy

I guess that two Kodiaks wasn't enough. Made it an even (or odd) three, thanks to AkMike.

How do those Kodiaks shoot? I have been looking at them online for awhile, but I haven't been able to see one in person to get a real feel for them.
Thanks.

I havent shot the 9.3 x 74 yet. I took the 45-70 hunting before I ever went to the range. I shot a hog at about 125 yards and fell but got back up and was heading towards me so I hit him again at 50 yards. First shot hit were I aimed (front shoulder) so I guess accuracy is fine.
The 8x57 shhots both barrels in a 4" circle at 50 yards, but that is with my poor eyes and not really trying too hard.

That 9.3 will shoot good! I was able to shoot several deer with it on Kodiak Island and was a back-up shooter for a Kodiak Brownie. It'll bounce a pop can all over a gravel pit and print a 2"group at 50 yds off a bench.
Of that I know for a fact!

Mike,
Are you still sunning yourself in the Ukraine? If I show up in Alaska are you going to show me around? A halibut steak is sounding real good about now.

Da Da, We had a great Christmas and New Years out in a small village with the DIL's mother and family and I got to spend alot of time with the grandson. Life's Good!
Still here and it's finally sunny and a -8c for temps. The doors open when ever you wander up. I assume that it'll be the same if and when I ever wander down your way too. It's been about 5 years since we visited with Mickey Mouse.

For 6,000 Euros (almost 8,000 USD) I'll find better that's not a pimped up $3,000USD rifle.
Since you've posted about this on a number of forums I'm curious.. Are you a salesman for them?

No sorry, I'm not a salesman ...

I teach computer sciences & data process in a french university, my student are Master degree ...
But you are right that the second time I put an advertissement for this gun cause the idea is not so bad with the .450 NE .. I think ... good looking no ?
and this is a french company which has had this idea and the price is (too hight for me) not so bad vs other double except Sabatti.
If I have just enought $$ I think I'd buy a Sabatti Double Big Five .450NE Hornady.

A question how many for a double like Chapuis .470 NE for instance?
In France the price is about 7500 € / 9000 € according to the grade.
Sabatti's price seems well ... here in France ... for a double ... but €€€€ despite everything !
Let's Dream ...
So ... I have a Winch Safari Express .375 H&H perfect ( I am proud of it) and ... cheaper ....
and a CZ 550 synthetic 9.3x62 Mauser ..
