Hunting Guide / Professional Hunter requirements?

I'm curious, as an avid do-it-yourself bow hunter, are there places in the world to bow hunt where a guide/PH is not legally required? I know many states within the US do not require hired escorts. A similar case occurs in Australia and New Zealand. I also know of no guide requirement on the Cree Indian Reservation in Canada if one desires to hunt Quebec-Labrador Caribou. Where else?

I have a property in Idaho where we've been very successful for elk, whitetail and mule deer. We also have moose, wolves and bears. It is private property belonging to me and so long as I don't guide, I can lease it out to hunters or an exclusive group for the month of September. We have a cabin and a large tent camp that is available. Taxidermy, meat hanging and butchering is also available locally.

A 4x4 and ATV are also available on site as well as a watchman who has horses if needed to retrieve an animal.

Jerome, what an asset you are! That's a start and I thank you for sharing this info. I read most everything in the articles. It has given me food for thought..and perhaps a future hunt will come from all this.

Surely not a "do-it-yourself" hunt, but this concept of a "self-guided" hunt with a PH/Hunting Guide present at all time for legal reasons could perhaps be an alternative for some and the benefit of such a set up is that this type of hunt could take place in just about any country where hunting is allowed in Africa.

It appears much of what I asked is being rehashed-sorry everyone for being the source of the re-visit. I have to be honest though, it's refreshing to see that I'm not the only person bouncing this idea around. I find it tremendously rewarding when the journey, the camp, the success...everything about the hunt lands squarely on me. I like being in control of my own destiny.

I totally agree with you iamyourhuckleberry.
The hunting experience and the feeling you get after a successful hunt is so much stronger when you know all of it was totally dependent on what you did yourself and not what someone else did.
It can still be nice to hunt and shoot an animal the someone else found for you, or from a blind or stand that someone else put up.
But doing it all myself is so very much better.
I wish it was possible for me to go on a hunt in SA or Namibia where the PH gave me a map, a gps and a radio and told me good luck and have a great day and let me hunt all alone.
I would sign any papers taking full responsibility for it all.
