Items in Rifle Hardcase
My daughter and I am traveling to South Africa to hunt in April. First trip. We will be bringing 3 rifles in 2 rifle hardcases. There is room for 2 rifles each. Can I pack a 1 piece cleaning rod, jags and patches and SOLVENTS/OIL in the rifle case? What about a tri-pod and knife? I have 10 round ammo cariers on the rifle stocks. Can I have ammo in them as long as I am under the weight limit for ammo?
Thanks for any help.

I would look at the airlines "no no list" for the oil. Other items you are fine.
More items get added to hazardous lists. I can never keep up with it. Lori may know the current.
No issues unless you are headed through Amsterdam. They would not like your knife.
I would suggest you Don't even think about that one. Just asking for trouble.
Original boxes and actual shell boxes would be fine.
They also tend to want them to be separate from the firearm (depends on the airline)
Good luck. Hope that helps.Practice whispering before you leave for Africa!
A Legend in my own mind!

Ammo needs to go in a separate and locked piece of luggage.
I used the Rem-oil individual bagged wipes and put them in the liner between the case and the foam-wasn't smuggling it-it just made a handy place to store it.
Throw in a few extra padlocks in case u need them!

Thanks for the replies.
I planned to take extra locks. I also have nameplates on the rifle cases with my name, address and phone number for if the tags get torn off the rifle cases during transport.
I have oil wipes in foil pouches and will take those.
I will remove the ammo from the carriers and have it all in boxes in the locked pelician boxes I bought. Do not want any trouble.
Does the locked ammo box need TSA locks or regular ones? I have regular ones for the rifle cases and TSA for the luggage already.
Our flight is direct from the USA to SA. So I should be ok with the knife.
Thanks again for the help.

I kept my pelican ammo boxes in my bags so I put TSA locks on them so they could inspect if they wanted to. Did not have any issues on either end.
The foil pouches could be an issue as some TSA inspectors may react differently. I had a small bottle of hops taken in the states a few years ago.
Reality is you wont need it, and if you do the PH will have something to clean with. Take a couple boresnakes instead.

Thanks.
I was taking the oil more for if it rained. I will be there May 1-13 hunting.
The cleaning rod was more for a stuck case or muzzle plugged by dirt/mud etc.
Planned to take boresnakes.
I usually do not clean a rifle bore during hunt season.
I will plan on TSA locks for the ammo then

I put regular locks on my ammo box and a couple spares inside just in case they get cut.
The journey is the reward.
