Default How do we go about importing our trophy mounts back from South Africa into the United States?

Here's some info on what and how we hunted. We (four of us) were asked/invited to South Africa to hunt with our customers that live there. Between the four of us we got 10 animals. We hunted these animals on a game farm there. And then dropped them off at a local taxidermy that was close to our customer/dealer in South Africa. How do we go about importing our mounts back into the states? Can anybody recommend a import broker? Since we didn't ever pay or use a Safari service, we were never told what has to be done to get these mounts back. I do know that the taxidermist also exports. But I am lost as what or how to get them home to us here in the States.

i am not sure where you live..,

Here is a suggestion...talk to a taxidermist that does African game animals...near where you live...find out who he uses as a importer...and obtain the tags needed from him...

or if you want to cut the taxidermist out of the loop you can go to the following web...this is who i use, however there are others and you can do a internet search to find them and be guided by there directions...

I suggest that you go to the hunting trophies button and follow the directions...

I am far from an expert on this but I beleive that hunting without a licenced PH is illegal therefore importing your trophies would be impossible.

Contact Lisa at D&b CHB. They are in chicago. I have used them every trip and they have been great. They can handle the wildlife inspections and then get the skins to your taxidermist or send your mounts directly to you.

D, I am sure cf7go did not actually hunt those trophies without a PH he just went along and watched the proceedings.
Then the owner of the land with the proper CAE (Certificate of Adequate Enclosure that included all those gifted animals on it) proceeded to gift some trophies to them and provided them with a letter to that effect when he dropped them off at the taxidermist. If not there is a PH's register that accompanied those trophies. OR they are not being exported anywhere.

On to your question cf7go; The taxidermist likely has a shipping company that he uses for exporting trophies.
They usually work or know someone on your end, depending where you live.
There are also several companies on this site that are in the business.
