Zambia - New Yellow Fever Requirement
This just in from PHASA Newsletter: The South African Department of Health has issued a statement that all returning travellers from South Africa to Zambia & travellers from Zambia to South Africa will now require proof of yellow fever vaccination. Previously, this was not required. All in-transit pax between the two destinations, irrespective of the time period in transit, will also require proof of yellow fever vaccination.

Haven't had a yellow fever shot since Tanzania in 1985! If memory serves it was painful!

Ses, just had mine and did not react or experience any pain. Maybe they improved the vaccine.
Got this shot because my plane touches down in Senegal. South Africa requires you to have Yellow Fever vac cert if you arrive, even transiting through, an YF endemic area.
Nice.

Brickburn ~ you're right about that according to the US Department of State's travel page on entry/exit requirements into South Africa. However, I have not heard of them enforcing it but that could change. The vaccine is good for 10 years so hang onto your card.

Yes, that made me go and look again at my itinerary, but no worries, stop at Dakar homebound but not RSA bound.

The folks at SAA did not know about it. I did not want to take the risk of being turned back after investing all that time and energy.
Since it is good for that ten year period I"ll just have to go back and use it again.

I received mine last year also....the problem was being put on a waiting list to receive the shot...it was in and out and no issues with the shot...i was on the list for 3 months...before receiving the call to schedule a time to come in and my window was 2 weeks to get the shot or the dose would go to another on the list...
planning at its best...James Grage - New Mexico
