Delta Extra Comfort Seats ATL ti JNB any good?
I getting ready to buy our tickets for a return trip with Louis and Spiral Horns and last year rode business class SAA but this year the new delta flight that does not stop at Dakar and has the new seats anyone rode them and your thoughts would be appreciated, heck 4,000 pay for another trophy but do not want coach trip like I had on a New Zealand hunt almost crippled me lol

I've got a client that puts everything, i mean everything (mortgage, all bills, vehicles, etc) on his United card. He totals over $250k a year on the card and pays it on time and off every month just so he can get the upgrade to first class for his annual safari without actually "paying" for it...just uses the miles accrued. Pretty good idea if you ask me!

Sorry meant that the differance between comfort seats in coach, and business class is 4,000.
Tom that is one way to do it and I already use that approach but I travel a fair amount so does not matter to me it I am using my miles or writing a check I look at the cost thanksBigun

I booked the economy comfort seats on Delta for me and my wife's flight to Johannesburg in May. I'll be able to provide a review on the seats when we get back. I figured the extra $160/each way would be well worth it.

Actually I may be one of the few that doesn't have a real problem with Delta's regular coach seats and I'm 6'1". I bring inflatable beach balls along to raise my feet off the floor and we only book the side wall row, 1 aisle and 1 window. If someone shows up for the middle I graciously allow them the window so I can get up every couple of hours and walk around. Now, that's not to say I'm not looking at the "super" coach seats for my next trip. Now that I'm retired and things are paid off, I couldn't amass enough miles on my card to go from LA to Frisco :-)
IF YOU GO ONCE-YOU WILL GO AGAIN-DEAL WITH IT

We are flying Delta on our upcoming trip and we purchased the extra comfort seats row 31 seats F and G which our Aisle seats across from each other at my travel agents suggestion. We are pretty big boys so I hope they provide us with a little more comfort and are worth the extra money. We flew SA airlines on our trip in 2011 with a stop in Dakar. We were cramped but I really didn't care I was going on a safari in Africa!

My wife has been doing this for us for many years now....In fact, we pay family members bills and put their big ticket purchases on our Delta AMEX to accrue miles. It's alot of work on her part, but it has definitely paid off for us. We used those miles for airfare on our last 3 trips to SA. We used miles to upgrade to Business Elilte(first class)to SA in 2011....
It's a great way to save some signifigant money on the overall cost of the trips. The problem, however, is that the miles are worth less and less every year. In '09, a roundtrip ticket to Joburg was 125,000 miles...This year it was 250,000miles....The number of miles required to upgrade to Business Elite also nearly doubled... The airlines are not a generous with their rewards programs as they used to be...We looked at all the cards and the Delta AMEX Gold Card gives us the most bang for the buck mostly because we fly Delta so frequently. The Capital One Visa is also a good card...If you use the Delta card, you also get other little perks like priority boarding, one free piece of baggage, and discounted food/beverages.

I used that "upgrade" last summer on my trip to SA. I think their price then was $150 each way. It's only a couple of inches, but it did allow me to stretch my legs straight under the seat in front of me. Anything helps on that flight.

I agree - I'd much rather save the $$ and pay for another trophy(or trophies), a full mount, a longer stay, etc. My wife and I went Business Class the first time we went (4 trips ago) and I felt that I could have applied that $10K (diff b/t 2 coach and 2 business) on something better.
My wife and I did the economy comfort upgrade from Atl to Joberg (and back) last summer and I'm doing the same thing next month when I go back. I felt that it was absolutely worth it. The extra leg room (albeit, I think just about 6" worth) and the additional recline make a difference on a 16 hour flight. You also get the AC adapters, sit fairly close to the front AND you get to board first before the rest of economy class. I have a huge carry on bag so that matters to me.

I hate to say this and perhaps I read too much into your comments, but between "boarding first", "the rest of economy class", and the "huge carry-on bag", you sound a bit arrogant. I particularly dislike people who carry on too much stuff, hog the overhead bins and act all indignant and snotty to the flight attendants when their "huge" bag wont fit anywhere. Just sayin.

Well I will just thank the gods that I have a huge johnson instead of a huge carry-on bag. Which btw is more fun to cram into spots than luggage in an overhead bin. The moral of the story is if you have a huge johnson you don't need a corvette.
